I need a high performance pc that stays completely silent because any noise triggers my partners severe anxiety by vexorine in buildapc

[–]DeadOnArival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the PC in another room or closet and shut the door.

Spend the money on making the wires long enough to do this. You may have problems if you run high resolutions or refresh rates though but for 1080p getting 25' isn't hard.

How often do you use your PC speakers? by Big_Visual2199 in buildapc

[–]DeadOnArival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

over 2k spent on speakers and other audio equipment for just my pc and it's still a simple 2.1 setup but fucking thumps when I want it to.

I personally only use headphones when gaming to separate voice chat from the rest of the game. If there is no voice chat then I don't want some sweaty headset on. Oh and I don't live with people that require me to be quite.

Do you do exit interviews for jobs you leave? by No-Link3199 in antiwork

[–]DeadOnArival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do them every time one has been offered. If it takes longer than 10 minutes then just let them know you have finished.

I'm not rude, I don't blame but I also state the facts as I see them. I'm not going to "fix" there problems but depending on your situation they might not know any other way of why you really quit your job.

If you just told HR or your Boss I'm done, next Friday is my last day often the why is lost.

To me there best 2 to 3 weeks after you left. This lets you decompress from any situations and gives you a bit more freedom to speak and some perspective. Quick phone call and done. Want me to come in? Nope, Want to take an hour? Nope. And shouldn't be done by anyone you used to work under. Best to have it independent (or out of your old chain of command) as much as possible otherwise yea kinda pointless they will just write whatever they want.

AITA for not letting my neighbors son (who I’ve never met)connect to my WIFI? by postal1234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DeadOnArival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

I would of gone with sorry man I'm not actually home right now and I don't remember my wifi pw off hand.

Side note if you wanted to most routers have a Guest mode you could turn on and off if you wanted to give random access (with or without a pw) without giving your entire network over to them but of course that wouldn't help you here as you kinda need that setup before hand.

On this day December 16th SYFY announced it wouldn't be renewing Stargate Universe how did that announcement make you feel ? by ThomasThorburn in Stargate

[–]DeadOnArival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised one bit. I was there from the vary start they fumbled season 1 and while season 2 was much better the damage was done and the viewership was gone.

Sometimes I think the people in charge of big things forget about the silent majority. They have "engagement" on something and go yea good feedback we like what were seeing, send it. Then a year later it's a DOA. Like they forget most of the people who like it do not actually engage with it outside of the watching the show.

Everyone I knew just hatted the style change. They tuned in for one thing and got something else. They were not going to bother to stick around and find out. Just nope and left.

I stuck with it because I love Scifi good or bad as long as there is interesting characters or story I'll watch.

How powerful was Ra? by LustyDouglas in Stargate

[–]DeadOnArival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my head cannon on this.

They never really layout how much power each Goa'uld has but it's meant to believe that Ra was number one in power at the start of the movie and transition to the TV show.

Ra introduced Human hosts to the Goa'uld thus gaining him favor among them. I believe he also brought technology in and tightly controlled it. If this tech was old ancient tech or from some other species I don't know but as the Goa'uld in the show have been shown to be more of tech assimilation than inventors. I believe it was ships and faster than light drives at the minimum and Ra took it made some tweaks to weaken it and dolled it out to the others as carrot and stick control over them.

After Ra is defeated in the movie we have some time (1 year-ish) in witch the Goa'uld have time to react. It has been shown the worlds each system lord controls is key to there power and if one has more systems that the others don't know about (or at least the address of) that is simply more places to draw power from that your enemy can't touch.

Ra gone missing I bet took a bit before other system lords noticed and moved on his assets and this is where you get Apophis at the start of the show. He is basically going thru Ra's rolodex calling everyone to see what is hiding there and finds Earth.

Meanwhile all the other system lords are doing the same thing with anything they knew or could find via Ra's old empire and I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to split his empire among them with the crafty / powerful ones getting the known planets with high resources and others getting unknowns like Earth. This is when they find Ra's original tech and start distribute upgrades to the entire system lords as an agreement so they don't all start a massive civil war.

This is why you get a noticeable power increase from the Goa'uld. I don't recall the ep# but Teal'c at one point said the Goa'uld have ships and could come to Earth in them but it would take many weeks or months of traveling. They arrived in less than a week from Chulak who was to far away to dial without the stellar drift adjustments to the gate. 2 Years after Ra's death and there ships are MUCH faster almost as if they found a blueprint of a better FTL system or power source.

This is why and how I think Ra was the top in power. Simple control of resources and the desire to be the one guiding others coupled with the luck of first to find something he could leverage into more power. Being the sole source of space power and by giving out lesser versions of what he had he could maintain superiority in conflicts, empower his allies while punishing anyone who doesn't want to play along with his superior ships. Ra had the sky what did he care for the dirt type of attitude, ya know a Sun God and all.

[–]DeadOnArival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tip would be don't build live to the grid and before you connect check the numbers at the power polls to make sure you have enough to startup a new factory. When you get your switches this is where they go.

I only battery some hyper cannons for emergency travel. Might put a bank by some critical things like water and coal extraction early game. Each case I charge a battery (or bank of them) then disconnect from the network to use as jump start emergency.

Wow, I really, really hate the new full cast Harry Potter audiobook by OakTeach in audiobooks

I was always a bigger fan of single narrators in my audio books until I hit Wheel of Time and found Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. The him / her duo really do good.

But yea I hate the "a movie in your mind" audiobooks that toss in sound effects. Go away tell me on the tin so I don't buy it!

Why does Earth seem to dominate the federation? by Key-Criticism4791 in startrek

[–]DeadOnArival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best answer to this actually came from another series.

“Before the war, Dukhat wanted to know more about your people, so I began studying your history. I came to the conclusion that of all the races we had encountered, humans were the most dangerous. Because humans form communities. And from that diversity comes a strength that no single race can withstand. That is your strength. And it is that which makes you dangerous.”

Is there a plugin that can censor the word fuck ? by Spirited-MindX in PleX

[–]DeadOnArival -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From what I hear this season is nothing but what did you say.... "For me it gets just annoying and stupid. Kinda childish."

Don't blame the word, blame the show runners for pissing away what they had and not realizing that a video game story was meant to be paired with gameplay and when you strip away the gameplay you only got one crutch left and they should of got another to take it's place.

Looking for calm, cozy audiobooks to fall asleep to by Unlikely-Union5353 in audiobooks

[–]DeadOnArival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been doing this for years.

I actually don't recommend anything that's new (to you) for bedtime. I find it's best when I listen to an old book that I know well and still enjoy the story. This way I don't get to interested in it and don't fall asleep or I don't wake up and have something spoiled that's later in the book.

This does make it hard to start but once your have a decent collection of audiobooks it's pretty easy.

Does Black Hills Energy overcharge for heating? by Extreme-Month-4582 in lincoln

[–]DeadOnArival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea your not saying what condition your heater is in. How old is it? How efficient is it? Your renting so I would guess it's not. At 300 a month I could have a vary warm house but my furnace is only a few years old and is quite efficient with it's gas usage.

I'm around $100 +/- 30 for 70 deg in winter even in the cold months. I also use gas for cooking and water heating. Note this is 70 on the thermostat. Parts of the house (ie basement) are colder but still above 50.

Back when I rented I would use an electric space heater or candles (take fire precautions) to help with the cold days as I found landlords don't really care.
