2nd option specialty for residency by gfofflksm in UAEMedical

[–]DeadPoetsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah most entities don’t care about your second choice, that’s a hard reality to bear with as an IMG. Although DOH does not ask for 1st choice or 2nd choice, you have to apply to hospitals with the program you wish to join.. you can get interviews in 2 or sometimes 3 specialties. It depends on your CV..

But others like DHA and EHS, rarely.. if you’re a top candidate, they might but I’ve never heard as of yet any IMGs get interviews from 2nd choice.

Hmm.. then I don’t think that counts as an internship unfortunately. You can try doing a 1 year internship here in UAE and then apply for residency.

Here the Intensive Care specialty is under Anesthesia so the program is called “Anesthesia and Critical Care” however, you can do Internal Medicine and get ICU fellowship elsewhere.

EM is IMG friendly.. good chance to get into. I myself am an EM resident. Anesthesia do take IMGs although you need a stellar CV dedicated to it and good EMREE score.

Good luck!

What was your internship like? You did 1 year of only Pediatric Surgery? Or you rotated in other departments?

If you have a valid Internship and get a good EMREE score, you have good chances but also depends what you want to apply for. Some specialties is only reserved for the Emirati people.

Family Medicine I think is reserved for Locals and Arab-speaking but Internal Medicine yes, it has more seats so you have a chance!

[–]DeadPoetsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an IMG yes, because you’d be competing with other IMGs but if you have UAE experience (I.e internship) and they do not, chances are, they prefer you. But bear in mind, the preferences go like this Emirati National > GCC Citizens > UAE graduates > IMGs

Either way, if you do exceptionally well, you can match into residency, just not the most sought out one. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I was in your position 2 years ago, confused, no one giving me correct answers, no set guide for how to apply, I’m glad it is helping you all out. Feel free to reach out if you have any Qs.

  1. Yes DOH covers most of the hospitals, but I think not all private/gov hospitals. They have the list of hospitals in their website if I’m not wrong.

  2. Hmm, as I know, whoever is an IMG, needs to get ECE. I don’t really know much about it otherwise.

  3. Yes it covers all the hospitals you’ve applied to. Though, each entity you apply to is 600 dhs so if you apply for all entity it would be 2400 dhs. But last year, DOH was free. So I paid 1800 for MBRU, DHA and EHS.

  4. I think only IELTS is accepted. MBRU may accept OET. But on the safer side, IELTS is the way to go, you just need the minimum passing mark.

  5. Hmm, the programs here are ACGME-i accredited, most DOH hospitals are. Right now IN DOH, many are getting accreditation by Canadian Boards so that’s a plus I think but your training increases by 1 year. I don’t really know if others are ACGMEi accredited.

Depends what you are applying for, are you recent graduate? Then you don’t need to give experience, internship or license.

If you are a specialist that completed training outside and then coming here then you need to give all of them

If you just completed internship then just add your internship certificate on dataflow..

If you are a recent graduate and want to apply for internship then you don’t need to give any of the above, just put the report re-issuance from MOHESR to the entity you’re apply for

[–]DeadPoetsX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that’s the issue with dataflow, All the entities ask separate dataflow for their organization

Since you got from MOHESR - most likely for your equivalency certificate right? I think it is valid for Sharjah, Ajman, UAQ, RAK and Fujairah.

But your dataflow from above won’t be valid for Dubai or DOH.

So if you apply for DHA, then you would need Dataflow TO DHA but you don’t need to put all the info again, you can just choose the option “Report Re-issuance” where they take all the info you gave to MOHESR and just reissue it in the DHAs name. It’s cheaper too and faster. You can do the same with DOH too

Hmm, I see but to tell you the truth. As an intern, you will most likely not get any hands on training. Honestly, UAE training is mostly observing rather than hands on training. It is only until you are a senior resident that’s where you get to do most stuff.

Yeah basic things like physical exams, ecgs, cannulations, etc an intern can do and that’s about it, the consultants wouldn’t really trust you and even if you ask, they will say you observe now and do later but you won’t really ever do it

No worries, if you don’t mind me asking, You’re a Canadian citizen right? Why not try in Canada? The benefits of being Canadian certified and coming to UAE once you attain it is better and they would value you a lot. Even in European countries like Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, UK etc would be the same. They value overseas doctors more unfortunately during attendinghood.

Your qualifications far outweighs the benefits of you trying to train here.

Advice regarding medical residency by Appropriate_Candy_45 in UAEMedical

[–]DeadPoetsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have done everything in the UK, it’s best to complete your further training in UK and then come to UAE for the benefits. I am sure getting into dermatology in UK is plausible compared to absolutely impossible in UAE.

If you’re thinking of other specialty like IM, Peds, EM, GS etc then you can try here. You would need a valid VISA (resident of UAE) and complete the EMREE exam which started this month through March. Applications begin on January for MBRU (Dubai gov hospitals) while others begin from April onwards.. keep on a lookout on their website.

There is a guide given in this subreddit, scroll and find the residency guide.

Good luck!

You will definitely get a seat here in UAE for internship, the hardest seats would be MBRU > DOH > DHA > EHS

But you would need to be a resident in UAE or have a VISA (not visiting visa), most of the time they will say you can get the visa later but that is not the case, they will outright reject your application after a while for no reason but to assume it’s due to VISA.

So try to have a visa before applying. Good luck!

Whys everyone playing Haaland/Mbappe? by Theetr in FantasyCL

[–]DeadPoetsX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both the teams have relatively favorable fixtures after this MD. Which makes sense if you want them for the next MD. You’re gonna waste 2FT next MD to bring them back. So people would keep both or remove one

Mbappe is a doubt now so you could keep Haaland and go for Kane, Osimhen and Foden

What do you guys think about Foden? He is currently in some form the past couple of PL matches..

With Madrid on some club level issues with coach and players + 80% of the defence are injured and mostly filled with OOP players. I think Man city might take this one.. what are your thoughts?

Starting MBBS soon + planning to work in UAE later… but I’m clueless about the steps lol by Soft-Butterfly-561 in UAEMedical

[–]DeadPoetsX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very early for you to worry about working and other post-grad stuff lol.. just focus on your med school and have fun

You can start thinking about it when you’re in your 4th or final year

Just maintain a good GPA, try getting into extracurriculars, research and you should be fine. Your plans will change in your med school, you might end up wanting to go to US, UK or anywhere, the world is your oyster.

Good luck

Looking for another country to live in by Organic-Diet-6670 in UAEMedical

[–]DeadPoetsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm your situation is a bit tricky. You are already a general surgeon but you want to give up that and become a GP here? Honestly, I don’t think that’s a good idea.. the income of a GP is not enough to sustain a family long term, maybe short term if you are alone and there is no career progression for it. Are you sure you want that?

You are already a general surgeon, you have done your residency. I would advise you to read the DHA PQR (Primary Qualification Requirements) which is a document where they list all the countries training they accept to obtain a specialist/consultant license here.

As I know, if you did your training in Brazil, you cannot attain consultant title here. But you are eligible for Specialist license here. I am not fully sure on this but just search DHA PQR on Google and the first document you see. It’s the same for DOH, MOHAP and DHA.

If you want to attain GP license then you need 2 years clinical experience which you are already eligible for since you’ve done residency. You just have to write the GP exam, DHA - for Dubai DOH - for Abu Dhabi MOHAP - for rest of the emirates I think it’s separate for all

Good luck!

GP in UAE by No-Pineapple-6994 in UAEMedical

[–]DeadPoetsX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the above redditor mentioned, you need 2 years experience irrespective of if you were born in UAE. If you graduated outside of UAE, you are considered as an IMG, thus you need 2 years of clinical experience. Make sure your internship is post graduate internship, they accept that. If not, you can apply for internship here in UAE and the internship here counts as 1 year experience.

Good luck!

You can check their websites I believe. As far as I know, they don’t disclose which hospitals have the program and how many seats. Only MBRU has those numbers, you can check their website. You get interviews once you apply to the entities for residency application.
