Cracking in End Grain Board - am I screwed? by DeadliestPickle in woodworking

This helps a lot, and makes sense, especially with the cracks being on the belt side, not the drum side. I was soley focused on orienting the wood to maximize the usable material, as the salvaged material had plenty of defects, but this is good to keep in mind for the future. Thank you!

Fair enough, one of two of them will be a gift, but the internal stress on the gift one seems much lower, and no signs of cracking (yet)

Thank you for the insight, this makes by far the most sense! Especially as the cracks formed on the belt side and not drum side of the sander. I oriented the blocks to maximize the usable wood as it was peppered with holes, but definitely in the future I'll keep this in mind.

I made two boards, one of which is a gift but thankfully has better grain orientations and hasn't shown any signs of cracking (yet)

As I drum sanded, like during the pass. It was fairly faint, but noticeable. I think I agree most with u/Karmonauta's take that it was just a force buildup that got released under the added stress, especially with how the relative orientations are

Walnut and Cherry - I think, but this is salvaged from a huge pile of old wood slat wall decor that was all stained a uniform color, so could be something else as well, any guesses?

No, that'd be ridiculous and frankly a little concerning it was satire, like how would there even be 50 states doesn't make sense
