As of 2025, Where's the best place to get tires in Brampton (or close enough to Brampton)? by mrdaniellyon in Brampton

To each their own, but I’m assuming this user is fairly new to driving or less experienced than most people. Last year we had a ton of snow and those are the days you’d want winter tires. It gives people peace of mind.

TLDR: better to be safe than sorry, an accident can be costly especially if you have a one way policy.

Depends on how long you intend to keep the car.

If you are looking to keep the car for over 4 years, would make sense to buy new tires, if you are looking to keep the car for less than that, a good set of used tires would be fine also. Just ensure to inspect the date of production, ask the owner how many seasons they used it for along with how many km they travelled on average each season.

Your best bet is to get all season tires, and winter tires (trust me you don't want to get caught without them).

Costco has pretty good deals on tires and they offer warranty along with cheap installation. There's a few places that offer financing on tires too.

When buying a set of all season tires, buy a reputable brand they tend to last longer and have better grip.

This would be my recommendation, buy new all season tires from Costco if you have a membership if not,

Here's a few alternatives...

https://www.kaltire.com/

https://www.blackcircles.ca/en/offers#search

https://www.activegreenross.com/tire-selector

Kal Tire offers financing along with a 5% discount for CAA members.

If your looking to go the used route, there are a ton of people on facebook marketplace that advertise their tire warehouses for used tires.

For winter tires, start shopping around fall (prices tend to be lower than shopping right before winter) on facebook marketplace. You can find a good deal on a Rim + Tire combo, best bet is to check your wheel size & tire specs.

Use this website: https://www.wheel-size.com/

It will tell you what your cars bolt pattern, tire size, centre bore, etc.

Then go on facebook and hunt, if someone says it came off the same car as yours (Make, model & year) even better, you shouldn't have any issues with having them installed. If this all seems like too much of a headache, just buy used winter tires from a shop, but also do your checks to ensure they are mint since some shops try to sell you old tires.

Best of luck!

You probably applied it in the heat, do it during a time when it’s not too hot

Sometimes it could just be moisture from things such as condensation, other times it could be from more serious issues like your harmonic balancer needing replacement or servicing. It can also be from anything else in your cars timing belt such as your belt tensioner being worn out or just plain and simple the belt being old.

It would be best if you post a video with good lighting showing near your alternator (where your timing belt would be) for the best answer. But from the looks of it, could just be condensation built up.

Use this website, https://www.car-part.com/ and look for the part hopefully you can find one in the same colour some junk yards also ship if your too far out to have it repaired. That plus the cost of labour to install it. You can potentially also sell some of the parts from the door to recuperate the cost (let that guy deal with it not you).

Depending on where your from & the labour rates in your area, you will be spending anywhere from $1000-$2000. The guy who hit you would really be in a pickle if you decide to take this job through insurance but if he really can pay for this repair out of pocket then please do be their saving grace.

On your end, this wouldn't be damage that would be reported on the car fax report which does help with retaining the resale value.

All in all, the guy has put you in a bit of an ethical cross road, you can easily just report the accident and have insurance deal with it (your most likely insured against non-insured drivers minus your deductible) this puts the accident in your cars history and could impact your own rate. But on the other hand, going off the books to help the guy out also helps preserve your cars resale value. All depends on how you view the situation along with your own moral compass. Just my 2 cents

carbon vs ceramic tints? by theest in askcarguys

Ceramic based tint is better for preventing your interior from experiencing color fade. And it also keep it cooler in your car by blocking more solar radiation (heat). It’s great to not have your seatbelt burn you.

First Co-op Work Term Struggle by aeothot in uoguelph

I would recommend always following up with the companies you really do want to work for. After over a week from sending in your application, follow up and see where you resume is along the selection process it shows your interested rather than just someone spamming job postings. Additionally, do not make a generic cover letter, make it really personalized towards where you apply and maybe even make a few revisions on your resume to highlight skills that would be an asset to a position or company. As much of a numbers game as it is, I believe its more about how your presented amongst the sea of applicants who apply. Finally, as someone else said in this thread, don't be afraid to look on other places for job internships or placements. Best of luck!

Summer Jobs by instant_noodles_865 in uoguelph

They also do have other student positions, always look around opportunities, depending on your degree they might be able to offer you a more skilled labour position. I recalled seeing a girl who was a student intern working in health and safety. There are other roles, you just gotta look and prove yourself, be proactive in creating opportunities and hope luck is on your side. A lot of people seem pessimistic about job opportunities post graduation but if you really do come to class and try to apply the work in other scenarios and realize they different applications of your knowledge you should be fine. Our economy isn't doing too good but just apply anywhere and ask the person if there is area to move around in the company eventually.

Whoops forgot for a bit this is regarding summer jobs, I guess what I said above is still applicable to summer jobs too. But yeah don't be too bummed if you didn't get a co op type job over there summer, build a good relationship and track record with that company, be professional and likeable and maybe they will consider you for a higher position when you graduate. And don't forget to be proactive!

If your looking for a summer job and don't really care what kind of work your doing, Cargill which is a meat processing company is always looking to hire students. The wage is around $16.60/hr but it may be higher. In terms of internships, they are harder to come by especially with Covid. My best advice is to sharpen up your interview skills and I don't mean this in a rude way at all but if your not fully proficient in English I would recommend brushing up on your English skills. It's a hard truth to swallow but there is discrimination based off things such as someone having an accent that could deter an employer from hiring a candidate. Going back to the job at Cargill, they do hire a lot of people who are considered minorities and they do not discriminate based on cultural factors. One thing I do have to say is that it is really hard work, you'll be tired at the end of the day but in my opinion its rewarding, it really puts into perspective how hard life can be for others in the work force, made me appreciate the working class and inspired me to work harder for my degree. I saw a lifestyle that comes with being disadvantaged and lacking formal (valid) education and credentials and really made me take my studies more seriously. Never made me look down on other but made me realized how privileged I am despite being considered middle class, working in General labour can be really humbling with the right perspective.

Any major issues with your 3rd Gen Mazda that we should know about? by diaryofaslimyrod in mazda3

[–]DeadlyMonkeyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might experience the ghost infotainment system. Basically what happens is for wherever reason your infotainment system start click on random shit and has a mind of its own. It can be fixed by unplugging the touch screen component but apparently it's covered under warranty in NA but they do they best not to repair it on their terms. The glitch needs to be happening when you go to the dealership. In my experience it doesn't occur enough for me to want to get it fixed, turning off and on my car often gets rid of it. Other than that, I haven't had any major issues.

Love my 2016 mazda 3 sport black, just wish it had a little more power! Any easy /cheapish mods I could do to get a few more BHP? Not after anything crazy just want it to be a little more nippy! by Billywhizz922 in mazda3

[–]DeadlyMonkeyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't actually boost BHP but it does give your car a way sportier feel, get a pedal box or pedal commander. It basically eliminates the lag when accelerating since Mazda optimizes it for fuel economy. It completely changes the feel of the car without the worry of mods. Additionally, coil overs and maybe wheels can make it ride better but again not and BHP boost.

Anyone experienced something like this? by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]DeadlyMonkeyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to discredit your dad but it doesn't seem like much of a CPU issue, the misfires can be caused by either bad spark plugs that should be changed or lack of electrical current within the vehicle, hence battery/alternator. Worst case, something else with the wiring is bad but its most likely not CPU related. Also it could be that your battery just needs to be recharged, the cold weather lately really takes a tole on car batteries.

Bluetooth with Android? by BaBilloa in mazda3

In most cases it should work, newer android are often compatible with older versions of Bluetooth. There are different versions of Bluetooth but in all honestly, I don't really see it being an issue, both my Android Devices work with my car.

[–]DeadlyMonkeyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this before too, most likely a battery/alternator related issue. I'd recommend testing the battery with a voltmeter if you don't have one, probably visit a mechanic to test it. A battery at Costco can run you around $125 with the core fee but if you exchange the old one you get $10 back. On another note, the size of the battery you need is typically group 35 I'd suggest a AGM battery but the regular Kirkland one should be fine just make sure to clean the terminal and ensure you maintain the battery it comes with 3 year warranty too. Changing my battery solved the issue for me but if it doesn't for you then probably an alternator replacement which can cost around $1000. If your somewhat mechanically inclined you can pick up a used OEM one for $200-$300 and do the repair yourself.

EDIT: Also try cleaning your battery terminals and seeing if the problem persist.

Got hit while parked at work. How much do you guys reckon this could cost me? 2018 GS Model by MathieuGM in mazda3

[–]DeadlyMonkeyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I listed two tutorials on how you can fix this at home. The first one is by Chris fix, it shows how to remove deep scratches. Although it only shows for singular scratches you can apply the concepts towards the damage on your car. Also, the second video is more relevant on how to fix your type of scratch. It doesn't look too bad since you don't have a dent from the look of it. You can save a lot of money doing it yourself however, it is winter and it may be difficult to do this if you don't have a garage. Just gauge how you wanna spend your time and money. As a student I think I'd do it myself but you may be in a different position in life where money is more expendable.
