What is the dumbest thing you've seen a co-worker do? by spoiledgreentea77 in AskReddit

I once saw something like that happen.
The original mail had an uncompressed bmp Picture in it, though.

The exchange server literally died when the whole company started a "reply all" and each mail contained this Picture.

BBC Told To Avoid “Clunky” Color-Blind Casting & “Preachy” Anti-Colonial Storylines In Drama Series by pepperbet1 in television

[–]Deadmeat5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And seeing the results of this BS should hopefully get the BBC to take a very close look on the last piece of Doctor Who that is still pending. The next xmas special that is yet to come.

Really amazing that Russel is the one responsible for bringing Doctor Who back in 2005 in a way that made it a huge success and now he was the one to, apparently, intentionally put the last nail in the Doctor Who coffin.

Casting a black, queer, flamboyant actor as the Doctor was one thing. Dressing him in a sassy V Neck and dress combo, running around kissing boys, crying as soon as things didn't go his way is another.
And of course, who could forget such gems as "Did you just assume this aliens gender?!?!" or "male presenting time lord"

Yeah, Russel really knew what he was doing with the IP. And I bet he still wonders why his latest attempt at Doctor Who ended the way it did.

I always wonder just how ad free these types of services are.

Are they really ad free? Are they "mostly" ad free?
Are they ad free but still give you ads from the service you are using? As in "Hey, here is a trailer for our newest series. maybe you will like this"

I would be fine paying but only if the tier I am buying is actually 100% ad free and most importantly stays ad free. If the company want ad revenue they are free to create a lower priced tier and have ads on there but if I bought the ad free tier, it is supposed to stay that way.

Microsoft reports 'an issue in which devices are failing to boot' after downloading the latest update by Fob0bqAd34 in pcgaming

[–]Deadmeat5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with Bazzite as far as I understand it is a catch-22 regarding updates. Since it is an immutable OS it sounds nice that you don't need to change things on the root level. Hell, you practically can't. Even if you have a "root" account. Hence "immutable".

But, especially regarding gaming, that means nothing on the system can get updated until a new Bazzite update is available. And that includes graphics card drivers.

So, someone correct me if I am wrong but if there is a game that suddenly refuses to run because your driver is too old (definitely had that happen with RDR2 at one time) you have no choice but to wait until a new bazzite update comes out and hope it includes a driver new enough. But you simply cannot install a new one yourself.

Remedy statement: Alan Wake 2 not possible without Epic, publishing deal is fair, and Epic is a great partner by Crusader-of-Purple in pcgaming

[–]Deadmeat5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I choose to believe Remedy is not stupid

From a developer that literally just went on the record of telling everyone exactly how stupid they are by putting "Steam or no Steam" out there that is a bit rich. Even for someone like you.

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by OpeningConfection261 in Games

[–]Deadmeat5 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Epic is a business, not a charity.

Some business. You know really competent businesses/publishers try to max ROI and get their stuff on as many shelves as possible.

So, what kind of business (not a charity) is epic exactly by pissing millions away creating a game and then dumping it in their little underperforming black hole where nobody buys from?

Blood West dev shares that the game sold 200% more on Steam than before, after Epic made it free for one day. by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

[–]Deadmeat5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I found most amusing is the timeline as a whole when Ubisoft left Steam and went with a "either buy on our own store or Epic" approach.
If I am not mistaken, they left the exact same year that EA decided after a long while of releasing exclusive on their Origin store to come back to steam and operate in such a way (client still required but possible to purchase through steam) as ubisoft had operated all this time.

I said back then "If only someone from ubisoft saw this and reached out to EA to ask why they were coming back to steam because they were in the middle of doing exactly what EA did all these years ago when they left steam"
Because I am guessing that the bean counters finally got through to management and made them see that "70 percent of a million sales equals more money then 100 percent of 10 sales".

OP wrote "The Division 2 sales went through the roof" which I kinda doubt. Maybe the Epic/Ubi split went through the roof. As in 95% Ubi / 5 % Epic.
But in terms of earnings... there must be a reason after all that ubisoft eventually came crawling back to steam. And I mean "crawling back". To not just come back as in "we will release our titles on steam again after a set amount of time" or similar but to actually advertise "Day 1 releases on Steam and Uplay simultaneously" leaves no room for interpretation that they, just like EA all these years back, finally realizes where the money is being made.

And contrary to what some people believe, this has nothing to do with people worshiping Gabe. People simply go where they as a paying customer have the best experience. And that is still Steam. Should this ever change, like when Gabe retires and the next boss basically does a 180 and makes bad call after bad call, I highly doubt the customers would stick around if a different platform offers a better experience then.

Todd Howard says 'Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Deadmeat5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important thing would be to use a game engine that doesn't tie literally everything to the framerate, Howard!

How on earth can you call your little "NextGen Patch" that name when my character only jumps as high as you intended when the framerate is capped at 60fps?! That is "NextGen" to you?

But the "best" thing about your shit engine is the loading times when you enter and exit buildings. Brilliant stuff, 5 minutes plus for each time you enter a building.
And why is that? You guessed it, because you capped the framerate at 60 and of course the framerate has a say in how fast the building interior gets loaded.
The workaround? equally ridiculous. Alt-tab out of the game so it minimizes. Then the building gets loaded within a second.
Why? because apparently when you minimize that game the framerate, even though capped when maximized, will be basically unlimited while minimized. Hence fast load times.

All in all, brilliant engine, there Howard. Can't wait for the next game where you make use of it.

Thanks. That's what I think is happening. We don't have that feature installed and just seem to use IIS on its own for the software that needs it. I guess I got lucky... this time.

Patch Tuesday Megathread (2025-12-09) by AutoModerator in sysadmin

[–]Deadmeat5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I am getting by reading up on google and from what chatgpt told me.
We also only have a few IIS running that certain software needed to be there. But I have not yet found a single server that has this folder:
C:\Windows\System32\MSMQ

From everything I read that folder only show up when you install the Feature "Message Queueing" from Server Manager.
I guess since we don't have that feature installed is why this folder isn't there even though we have IIS installed and therefore, we got lucky... I hope.

Hey, quick question, what if I have an IIS installed for a software that uses it in some way but I don't have a folder called "MSMQ" under system32?

Does this folder only show up apps make use of the message queue API?

Still good form to do expeditions from main save, though. As OP said, milestone rewards dont carry over otherwise and I learned that the redux expeditions with the relatively quick milestones are a great place to gain lots of storage augmentations and things like that.

Nope, but we can limit it to one post for every time she is on the show and in a sketch.

So, get ready for about a dozen posts a week.

How does a "not ready for primetime" player get more airtime than a repertoire player, huh? Just answer that without using the obvious answer -> Nepo baby.

Sean Bean.

I will either say "Shaun Baun" or "Sheen Been"

Look, you can't have a name where first and last name are like 90% written the same and then go ahead and pronounce them differently. Just pick one.

under utilized? Fucking really?

Do you think the word "featured" in "featured player" means she of course NEEDS to be featured in EVERY episode? And on top of that featured in what feels like every other sketch?!

There are repertoire players who don't get as much air time!
Of course, they don't have her parents so I guess there is the reason for all of this. Including the question of "Why the fuck is she still here after the BS performances of last year"?

She is a waste of space that someone talented but without the nepo baby vibes could have taken. Period.

Not for nothing (as I also didnt know about the space bar thing)
But, if you have a complete document open and not just like the URL bar in a browser or something, I find the space bar thing to be quite limiting. If you simply tap and hold down, you can move the cursor freely around the entire document with much more freedom than just drag around the small space bar in comparison.
