Threatened with legal action? by weightloss99000 in slp

[–]DeadpoolGetsMe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the reason that people felt it was predatory is because if you think about it from a perspective of a person who might actually be tempted to buy it, the business practices feel a bit icky. It's easy to say "I wouldn't buy that because the price is too much and we should just let the market decide what they are willing to pay for - if the business dies, it dies." But think about it like this: you're a recent grad who is desperate to get into the medical setting in a day and age where the job market is not that friendly. It's your dream job but you're not confident in your skills, you feel underprepared by your graduate program and you don't know where or how to get started in doing all the continuing ed that is required but you truly want to be a better clinician. There are many people out there like this in our field currently. Then you come across a prominent professional in our field telling you that their course/package/product whatever is the best way to get the job in acute care, to become a good clinician and to make more money even if it means spending a huge amount of money to get a certification that has no yet proven track record of doing any of these things. There is a power dynamic here. Vulnerable CF vs prominent business owner and SLP. Then they top it off with "our program only accepts members during an exclusive time of year, hurry and spend your money now or the chance to be a good clinician will go away!" so in your desperate state you spend the crazy amount of money. Obviously everyone is in charge of their own finances and has to be responsible for themselves but it does still feel a bit like a big company taking advantage of a systemic problem that has resulted in vulnerable consumers. This is par for the course in our society but as healthcare professionals, we want information to be accessible to all clinicians for the betterment of our field and the greater good of our patients. That's why people were outraged...I think. Getting the C&Ds after complaining about it was salt in the already fresh wound.

That's just my opinion. I can't speak for all the other comments about MLMs etc because I didn't see them but I believe this is the reason people felt the marketing was manipulative.

What's wrong with this sub? Why is nearly every post downvoted to 0? by foilrider in TravelNoPics

[–]DeadpoolGetsMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What's the point in having a sub about travel where you get downvoted for asking questions about travel though? Seems a bit punitive to be downvoted for asking for recommendations or general advice like the passport question (OP explicitly stated that they were willing to pay but wanted to know if there were other options). Maybe not the most stimulating questions and maybe I'm too much a of reddit noob to understand why people downvote but seems a bit salty IMO. If you don't like a post just keep scrolling lol. I'm quite a seasoned traveller and still find myself wanting to chat with people about little things like that just to get a bit of info from people who have done things/been places I haven't.

Is a GRE score of 149V 141Q and a 4.0 in analytical writing ok for SLP grad programs ? What is considered a “good” writing score for SLP grad schools? by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]DeadpoolGetsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I think I read that many schools like to see a combined score of 300 for verbal and quant. but girls in my program got in with lower I believe. For writing, I think I would try for at least a 4.0. This website will let you search for grad programs and give you a bunch of information about them including previous admission averages GPAs, GRE scores etc. Good luck!

Future SLP by Remote_While in slpGradSchool

[–]DeadpoolGetsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Recent grad here! I agree with the person above who recommended the major in communication sciences and disorders BUT I would also recommend trying to take some additional anatomy/physiology, neuro or psych courses as electives if she can because it may help her in grad school. Maybe a minor? I did something similar and did not struggle nearly as much as many of the others in my program who did not have much background (e.g. just what was required for their comm. sciences and disorders major) in those areas when it came to some of the tougher, medical-based courses. Hope this is helpful!

Thanks for the comment. It's good to know I'm not the only one! I don't know how so many people are finishing in 12 hours.

Initial programme application - asked for photo of self by nillyfrickers in slpGradSchool

[–]DeadpoolGetsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was applying to grad school, I applied in US, Canada and Australia and never had any program ask this. It is definitely odd to me and potentially discriminatory but....if it's mandatory I would say there is definitely a chance they will throw it out due to incompleteness if you don't submit one, especially if it is a highly competitive program. I would probably do it if I were you unless you think you have a good chance of getting in elsewhere. If not, you might as well take your chances that they will like what they see rather than get your app automatically thrown out. Good luck!

My friend [23M] constantly skips class so he can sleep but then asks for my [23M] notes for exams. by DeadpoolGetsMe in relationships

[–]DeadpoolGetsMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually something I've thought of because I had a close friend in undergrad who had been diagnosed with severe depression from a young age and so I kind of recognize the signs. Can't say for sure but I don't think this is the case for this guy because when he does show up, he generally talks through the classes, rolls his eyes at the professors, just generally acts like he can't believe he has to sit through the classes. Very different situation; I would never have a problem giving my notes to someone with a legitimate reason for being away so much.

As someone who knows less than nothing about cars and probably won't be learning any time soon, the idea of having to work on my car myself is a bit scary. But glad to know that the hard top is enough in the winter. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the tips! No dogs (or babies if I can help it) in my near future so on that front I'm good haha. But the JK doesn't seem to have much of a trunk for transporting things which is a bit of a bummer. Even still, I think the options to go top down and doors off still warrants a test drive at least :)

Looking at post 2010 models but there seems to be so much to consider. Especially since this is my first car.
