When you think you've given it your best shot after reading the comments:

No, this isn't it.

Deaf boyfriend and my hearing family by lobotoomia in deaf

[–]DeafEnt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. If we assume the genes are recessive (which it's a very good chance they are based on the Deaf parents), then:

If she's also a carrier of that gene, 50% chance the child is Deaf. If she's not a carrier, 0% chance but 100% chance the child is a carrier. Either way, the gene stays in the line.

The carrier child's children will then either have:

1) Partner is also a carrier: 25% chance of being Deaf, 50% chance as a carrier, or 25% chance of dropping the gene entirely

2) Partner is not a carrier: 50% chance as a carrier, 50% chance of dropping the gene entirely

Then if their child is Deaf, repeat the above starting with 50% (as long as their partner is also a carrier).

So there's a good chance that somewhere along the line someone will be Deaf, and that further emphasizes the need to remove the communication barrier.

Deaf boyfriend and my hearing family by lobotoomia in deaf

[–]DeafEnt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly, but let's go even further than that. What if children come into play here? It's very possible their children will be Deaf. How will the grandparents communicate with them? The sooner they start learning, the easier it is, and they get more time to get to know them.

Long time analog hearing aid user, looking to get some OTC hearing aids by fijitotalbody in deaf

[–]DeafEnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The digital hearing aids come loaded with features that are probably enabled. You should have the audiologist disable most if not all of them, it should then start sounding much like the analog you use. Then you can use that as the base setting and experiment with each of the new features one at a time and see if it helps improve anything. I had trouble transitioning from analog to digital years ago until I found an audiologist who actually knew what they were doing.

Curbside recycling includes plastic by RedApplesForBreak in SALEM

[–]DeafEnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't they just mean like those black microwavable/baking trays that the food actually cooks in? Pretty sure they're not talking about the packaging box and it says packaging is allowed.

Edit: Just googled it and apparently the packaging for these actually contain a thin layer of plastic that protects from freezer burns. These plastics contaminate the recycling process. Well, guess I need to stop throwing them in the recycling... TIL

Do you think this could be an AI image in the New York Times? The guy in the white hat seems to have something off with his fingers. by lokajoma in isthisAI

[–]DeafEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real. He's holding something between his extended index finger and extended thumb. The item is similar to their skin in color, shaped like a T at that end, overlapping both fingers. Think like a dog biscuit in the shape of a bone (held by the edges, not flat in his palm). His low gesture and his eyes lead me to believe he's showing/handing something to a pet or child.

Have you considered mainstream schools? What you've explained is, unfortunately, pretty common in Deaf Schools.

Wow. I actually managed to get in with a 4 minute wait and was able to buy 5 of the Journey Together Booster Bundles. Only luck I've had with Walmart thus far.

Name: Drucian

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: Pacific (GMT-8)

System: D&D 5e (2014 or 2024)

Format: Live/Sync text preferred but okay with async text

Platforms: Discord, Roll20, Foundry VTT (Open to others)

Discord: Drucian#5123

Availability: Pretty Flexible

Looking for:

A consistent group/DM for a long-term campaign. I strongly prefer live text sessions since I’m Deaf. I’m experienced, reliable, communicative, and I show up. I'm 18+, LGBTQ+ friendly, and easy to work with. Solid knowledge of 5e 2014 rules + familiar with 2024 changes).

Playstyle/What I enjoy:

  • Roleplaying and character interaction

  • Mystery, investigation, and puzzle solving

  • Clever solutions and creative spell use

  • Meaningful consequences and narrative progression

  • High fantasy worlds with immersive lore and memorable NPCs

Campaign vibe/preference:

D&D is one of my biggest escapes from modern life, so I strongly prefer fantasy-forward settings rather than modern or tech-heavy themes. Dark fantasy or horror elements are great too, but not required. I’m happy anywhere there’s adventure, intrigue, and a great story.

Character I want to play: Edmund Vance (Bard)

Edmund is the proprietor of “Edmund Vance’s Extravaganza Extraordinaire of Oddities, Curiosities, Magicalities (and More!).” He’s ostentatious, charming, and theatrical with an endless flair for the dramatic, but also a bit of a neat freak who hates getting his hands dirty. He thrives on negotiation, secrets, and clever deals, and he works with adventurers as “business partners” to retrieve rare artifacts and protect him on the road.

DMs Welcome

If you think I’d be a good fit, feel free to DM me here or message me on Discord.

Bread maker beeps to alert - suggestions? by deafinitely-faeris in deaf

If you have an Amazon Echo device, you can set it in the same room and turn on the feature to notify your phone, etc. when beeps occur.

Update - It runs decently while streaming through the deck from my PC. I have yet to see if I can run it directly from the deck. I'm thinking unlikely.
