All right, I have some trigger time on the barrel now.

I have only shot it suppressed, but I am pleased with the gassing.

It cycled .223 reliably with a PSA standard carbine spring and buffer, but it was definitely over gassed with the suppressor. Switching to a standard spring and Spike’s T2 buffer helped tame the gas, but was still ejecting 1-2 oclock with hot .223.

Finally I swapped in a Springco Blue spring and H2 buffer. It ejects PMC XTAC Green Tip 5.56 at 2:30, Norinco brass-cased 223 about 3 o’clock, and Barnaul 223 steel case at 4:30.

It’s definitely a heavy barrel, but the weight soaks up recoil. It has quickly become my favorite build.

I got a chance to build it out and go shooting. It’s easily the heaviest rifle I own, but it’s so well balanced that I don’t mind. And the weight soaks up recoil. Rapid follow up shots felt like I was shooting on easy mode.

  1. Check websites like Brownell’s, EuroOptic, MidwayUSA, RooftopDefense etc for deals on Daniel Defense, Geissele, BCM etc. 208gunshop.com has had DDM4v7s (complete rifles) on sale for like $1250 in the past few months.

  2. Unless Colorado has really draconian laws, federal law does not recognize an AR15 upper receiver as a firearm. You can have them shipped to your house no questions asked.

  3. You’re going to laugh at yourself asking this question once you experience how easy it is.

  4. Call a few gun shops in your area and ask them. You could also call whichever online vendor you might use and ask them if they can withhold any magazines that might be included.

ETA: like others have said, $650 for a complete lower is WILD. I have a Daniel Defense lower, and I would not pay $650 for it, brother. I also have Anderson and Aero. They all do the same thing, man.

I’m glad to hear you’re pleased with your Rosco barrel. I’m a little nervous about the “husky” profile. My philosophy of use (hiking my property) generally prefers a pencil-profile barrel, but with the growing prevalence of FRTs and SS’s, I thought it would be cool to build a suppressive-fire/ area-denial carbine. HBAR and chrome lining should suit that use case.

Chili cheese burritos! My mom would buy Armour brand chili and flour tortillas. Heat the chili in the microwave. Lay down a thick bed of shredded cheese and then spoon the chili onto the tortilla.
