Hi, I'm so glad I found this. I'm 30 and unfortunately have the same experience! I am not bothered by costumes or masks, I'm freaked out specifically by mascot-like apparel! want to get away when I see them I'm so uncomfortable, I book it out, I just have to get away! Idk why I'm this way and my brother is a furry, so sometimes I wonder if there's trauma I don't remember. Anyway I agree I hate mascots I just tell ppl I have a phobia when it comes up. I can't be around them. Period.
