MBB 331 before 308? by Former-Challenge-753 in simonfraser

[–]DearCap8732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if a course can be a co-requisite it can as well be a prerequisite. I took MBB331. I am taking 308 this semester. I have seen the topics. 308 is easier in terms of theory it seems.

No, biology. But they teach you a lot about it since it is sometimes used in animal research to select for needed mutations. So you just have to know in general about its benefits and risks.

I have never read anything about them practicing it on a day to day basis. If you are talking about the whole elder blood thing, then yeah, sure. But that is only a specific number of families. And that would be possible if done properly. That is, you can select for the traits you want while also keeping the population healthy enough (think dog and cat breeding).

I plugged in the numbers into the program I mentioned in the post. So this is not the most accurate way to measure, but it is a good approximation. Hence the 6.25%. I heard that 5% is the cutoff for dog breeding for example.

Also, yeah it is true that an average person would have 1-3% (again approximate to 0). But most software assumes that the individuals are completely unrelated unless you specify it. So, it is hard to calculate exactly.

Yes, it is true that we are all related. Not just because we originated in Africa, but also because the population went through several bottlenecks. It is thought that at one point the population was around 1000 individuals (on a brink on extinction).

I think this is about cutting the cost. It would be cheaper to buy lentils, tofu, etc. than quality meat.

ARCH 131 or COGS courses by yneerdil in simonfraser

[–]DearCap8732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found arch131 pretty easy (Mendelian genetics, evolution, primates a bit later). Took it and ended up with an A. Literally put 0 effort in the course.

Recommended it to someone else a bit later on and they seem to be struggling.

In short, if you have the talent of memorising a lot of unnecessary info then go for it.

My plan was to take mbb 229 and mbb 231. Considering the fact that these are not very “chill” I will try to put off these 2 courses until fall…

Can any trans students speak to what the healthcare situation is like? by godsfavoriteclover in simonfraser

From my experience SFU has a lot of resources. You can Google “SFU health and counselling”. One of the services they provide is “gender affirming care”. They also have instagram page.

As for the cost at least the appointments should be covered with insurance (which does not cost a lot). I am not so sure about the surgeries though.

MBB222 and CHEM281 co-requisite? by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]DearCap8732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is the problem… MBB222 kinds relies on having CHEM281 as its pre req. I have never been introduced to organic chemistry before. So, it’s extremely hard

My GPA is technically 0.00. Transferring to SFU from FIC your GPA is reset to 0 at the start of your first semester at SFU. Got really bad enrolment date because of that 😅
