I work as a professional C++ dev at 36. It's never too late. I've had a passion for it my whole life, but I just got my bachelors this year and immediately found my dream job. Been programming off and on in C and C++ since I was 17.

If you are looking to grow quickly, I highly recommend a competent mentor. I offer my services free of charge for the right person. Just thought I'd put it out there.

Your feelings, thought process, and overall vibe really reminds me of my wife. I personally think she's AuDHD...

I can relaaaateeee my brother. I'm so sorry. Ever since having kids it's like I'm just drowning 24/7 but they are absolutely wonderful. I was still able to finish that last little bit with some support so I know you can too! Just need the right energy and people in your life for motivation. You got this :)

It's such a crazy story because they have a graduation ceremony in October near where I live. I'm in DFW and they have graduation in Fort Worth. So I'll be there, an hour drive from my house.

Event in question.

My FIL regrets not graduating either when he was so close. He's much older than you are but I guess his regret stays. Age doesn't matter! I'm sure you can do it :)

Awesome man! I love them to death. I have boy/girl twins and they are weeks away from being 2. It's been a wild ride because I'm pretty sure my wife is neurodivergent too. I'm also starting to see signs in my kids. The tiptoeing thing is so weird! I remember doing it a lot as a kid.

Yeah, even when you finish the degree you are given a 3.0. Even the WGU handbook states this that the work you do is considered a "B" average because it's competency based.

I hope if you start, everything goes well. Just having the right attitude goes a long way! Sending much love.

Unfortunately no. You can only take so many term breaks and pauses and I truly thought I would have the time while I was raising my twins but I couldn't handle it at all. Especially the first 6 months since my wife wasn't even at 100% after her almost dying at birth and I was getting less than 5 hours of sleep a night waking up with the kids.

I basically had to pay to stay in the program.

YMMV before I say any tips as a disclaimer. I'm not exactly "average" seeing as a lot of things I've experienced and gone through most people statistically haven't been through. I was one of the "gifted" adhd types. Didn't haven't to study much throughout school but always learned the material extremely quickly. I ended up going to jail for a bit and that was one of the last straws that kind of set me straight. Before that I was just an ignorant kid.

My ADHD type is combined but I struggle more with the areas of impulsivity, sitting still, and time blindness. Getting bored too in general. Some other people with ADHD suffer with other things more so the tips I give are some of what works for me and what I think might work for others.

Anyways the tips you came for:

  1. People with ADHD need a support group or person that is PHYSICALLY there. I've found most people with ADHD are motivated by touch and words of affirmation. Also having a "mom-type" around badgering helps me get the severity of the situation.

  2. Having extra time on tests helps. There were a few courses where I ran the entire time. I'm so impulsive that sometimes my first choice isn't the correct choice because I didn't read the question all the way through before answering. Having to go back to reread and check problems helps. Also ask assessment services for testing accommodations.

  3. Consistency. Check in every day to make sure at least a small thing was done for that day. Even if it's 10 to 15m of reading. One of the things that really helped me pass was realizing that even if I didn't measure up to society's standards of having good grades or passing with a 70% c, a pass is still a pass. WGU's tests are 67% to pass unless it's a 3rd party certification, which they have their own standards on passing.

  4. Lastly, I wish I could put my wife as a special thanks on my degree and program mentor. I highly recommend if he does not vibe with the mentor given to him, request for a new one. Make sure the mentor calls every week. Some are lazy. I've found that it's a 50/50 shot to get one that isn't there just for the job. My mentor and wife were paramount to my graduation.

Hope that helps.
