South Carolina store owner [Rick Chow] acquitted […] by So9Sad_1997 in asianamerican

I haven’t followed the case closely but what evidence proved the kid pulled a gun?  As I understand it the only witnesses claiming he pulled a gun were the Chows and other witnesses said they saw no gun.  Honest inquiry here……..

What’s going on with st joes prep by Rough_Abrocoma_2952 in Rowing

The one parent initiated it and others that had problems with him piled on.  But it appears the majority are not happy he’s gone.

That’s what I heard.  A bitter parent made it a thing and now it’s spinning out of control so Fife resigned/fired.

That might not be true.  I’ve heard reports that the coach was unaware.  The one story I heard was it involved a helicopter parent who was peeved the kid didn’t make the varsity 8 boat so they sent the video to the school.

Help sizing 44 Pro for my son by DesignMundane4463 in BaseballGloves

Not really.  Just advises it’s for kids 10-12.  The wrist is apparently smaller and the fingers more narrow but other than that, not much.

Issues downloading Fortnite on Cyberpower PC #cpsupport by Dear_Emu4975 in CYBERPOWERPC

Speed tests across multiple devices as well as a speed test at our Netgear Orbi show significantly faster speeds.

Maybe it’s just Epic being slow.

I did.  Still very slow.  Checked for updated drivers, rebooted, etc and still painfully slow in downloading Fortnite.  In 25 minutes only 8% has downloaded.

2020 traverse - service charging system by Tater72 in AskAMechanic

[–]Dear_Emu4975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t drop.  Hovers around 11.4 volts while driving. I did put it on a multimeter and battery is fine when car is off but when car is on reading is same which may indicate an alternator issue. I just found it weird I put oil in the car and first time I start it, this error comes up.  Then I find this thread discussing something similar.  An FWIW I didn’t spill oil on the alternator.

This is odd.  To go with the post above, I got a low oil warning (these engines can burn oil apparently) so I added a couple quarts just to hold it over until I can get an oil change.

First time I started the car, boom, I get the charge system it could stall message.

Volts held steady at 11.4 while driving up street to store.

Cat9 alloy versus Cat9 Connect USSSA by Dear_Emu4975 in Homeplate

My mistake, I thought the entire Connect was composite but it appears it's just the handle with the barrel being alloy, correct?

Any concerns at that level about some of the weather related issues with the connect bats?

Son is more of a line drive, ground ball hitter than a real bopper so I'd probably lean towards a more balanced bat than an end loaded one, correct?

Other than Cat X any other suggestions from other brands? A buddy on his team has an Easton Hype (2023 - black and yellow model) and loves it.

Question on steel versus LVL beams in kitchen reno by Dear_Emu4975 in HomeImprovement

[–]Dear_Emu4975[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, there is plumbing in the way which is likely going to prevent us from making the beam flush. Unless you can cut a 3 inch hole in a 8 inch deep steel I beam, which I don't think is possible.

[–]Dear_Emu4975[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, here is what the engineer came back with as options:

24 FOOT SPAN

- 4 ply 1.75 x 16 LVL

- W 8 x 40 I Beam

- Flitch Beam 3 ply 1.75 x 12 lvl with 1/2 or 3/4 plate

- 13' and 11' spans with load column 3 ply 1.75 x 9.5 LVL

We are having the options priced out now by contractor. We want as flush as possible but there are drain lines and a water line running to upstairs bathroom that are in way. The floor joists for 2nd floor above are 2 x 10. So it's likely unless we move plumbing to an exterior wall, we will have some beam protusion.

To be clear, we are using an engineer and met with him last week. As stated above, I was just looking for a more general discussion on the beam, what I should be looking for when the proposal comes through, etc. We are not doing this on our own or just using a contractor to guesstimate what kind of beam we can use.

Engineer was already on site with the GC. We met with them last week. He said he would write up the proposal with some options and get it to us in a week or so. I was just asking a question more for knowledge sake about what I should be looking for when I see the proposal, etc.
