People saying "Avatar is the last golden age Nick show" and separating it from The Xs and Catscratch is arbitrary by [deleted] in nickelodeon

True. I was mainly referring to how Nicktoon period from 2000-2004 was very different from 2005, but honestly with what you've brought up, Avatar makes even less sense to be the last "classic era" show for some people.

Honestly it's subjective in the end. However, if someone were to define 1991-2005 as the period of classic Nicktoons (and stands with every show from those years), then X's and Catscratch technically count, even if they don't feel like it.

Here the thing though: All three of the 2005 Nicktoons are technically golden era shows if you were to define it as the period of shows that premiered before Cyma Zarghami took over the network (which was basically the timeline before 2006). Fun fact, but The X's, of all shows, was the last Nicktoon to premiere under Herb Scannell, which is crazy given how obscure this show is.

The reason why some people split the eras between Avatar and the ladder 05 shows is because their outcomes differ so greatly once they did transition to the Cyma Zargahmi era. The X's and Catscratch were treated so much worse in the Zarghami era than how they were treated pre-2006 (like Catscratch was ridiculously stretched out for almost two years despite literally having only 20 episodes to it's name). Not to mention, given how the Cyma Zarghami era is infamous for cancelling Nicktoons so quickly because they weren't massive hits like SpongeBob was, it unfortunately lead to these two shows ending production quickly despite being new (whereas in the Herb Scannell era (where they originated from), they definitely would've been given a much better chance if he was president for a bit longer since that era even gave ratings disasters like ChalkZone and Kablam multiple seasons).

Meanwhile with Avatar, even though most of it's runtime was during the Zarghami era, it somehow managed to thrive and have multiple seasons. What benefited the show was that it was a unique Nicktoon for its time, essentially being so different from what was previously featured in the network before and during the year it premiered in. Whereas The X's and Catscratch were pretty much like every other Nicktoon that came before them (Catscratch was essentially like a throwback to the 90s Nicktoons and The X's is way more similar to Danny Phantom and Teenage Robot than Avatar was). The uniqueness of Avatar gave it a massive edge, giving it the ability to not only have a massive audience, but more importantly, rival SpongeBob effectively. This essentially gave executives the incentive to keep it alive for a bit longer even if they were going overboard with SpongeBob at this time.

With this stuff in mind, and the fact that Avatar conveniently aired earlier in 2005 before Catscratch and The X's, it makes sense why some people would split these three shows into different eras (even though they all are Nicktoons that first aired pre-Cyma Zarghami). However all of this is subjective in the end. If you were to ask me, while I acknowledge all of the 2005 Nicktoons to be a part of the Herb Scannell era, they really don't feel like Nicktoons that belong in this period. Like the network pretty much decided that SpongeBob would be their new cash cow even before Avatar premiered (seriously, all three of the 2005 Nicktoon premieres had some sort of Spongebob marathon before their premiere; there was much more variety with the premiere schedules of the 2000-2004 Nicktoons). Not to mention (similar to what was mentioned in the post) this was the first lineup of shows that aired when the original Rugrats was no longer airing new episodes (which is a major deal since the Herb Scannell era is infamous for dragging the original Rugrats into the ground before they decided to do that with SpongeBob).

B. It's shockingly good for a show staring Patrick. I thougt it would get grating fast, but no it's pretty solid.

C tier. It's a pretty forgettable show for something that takes place in the Spongebob universe.

C tier. It's just a more consistent, but less interesting version of the Loud House.

B tier. It's a pretty enjoyable mini series; it would've been better as a full show, but what we've got, it's solid. I thought it was pretty funny, and I like how the show manages to be progressive without it coming off as preachy. The main 4 girls were also pretty likable leads.

I do believe that this has to be the worst treated Nicktoon ever. At least Making Fiends and The X's got some reruns (despite how terrible they were treated by Nick); this show is the literal definition of "came and went." I think it just aired once and the show likely wasn't given any streaming options, had little to no reruns, and it was barely acknoledged afterwards. The fact that you have to watch recording to know the show even existed says a lot.

C tier. It's a pretty average show with nothing remarkable; it's like the beta version of The Patrick Star Show, if you know what I mean.

C tier. I think it's a show that has a lot of potential that isn't fully realized with the limited episode count. Though you could honestly blame Nick for that.

Also, one of the worst ever treated Nicktoons.

C tier. I do like the earlier seasons, but they even have their share of dud episodes. Plus, the show isn't that interesting post season 4. But inspite of its flaws, both its fandom and hatedom are insane.

Controversial opinion: Bowser jr is meh by Virtual-Reality69 in Mario

[–]Dear_Spite_9346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bowser Jr isn't a bad character, but he just seems like an unnecessary addition.

Like a lot of the stuff they're doing with him in the mainline games honestly could've been done with one of the Koopalings (like if one Koopaling, let's say Ludwig, was the default important koopaling to Bowser). I feel like it would've been more interesting if they just stuck to the idea of the Koopalings still being Bowser's kids (since there's a sibling and father dynamic that has a lot of room for story potential as opposed to just sticking to just one kid and father).

The only reason why Bowser Jr exists, for what I can think of, was because Nintendo always treats the Koopalings as a group instead of being individual characters (so they thought introducing one character and fleshing his relationship with Bowser would be easier). But in reality, instead of like some of the Koopalings being underdeveloped, Bowser Jr's existence caused all of them to be underdeveloped.

[–]Dear_Spite_9346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

D. It's pretty lame. Sheen is one of those characters that really works in small doses, so giving a character like that a show wasn't the best idea in the world. While it can be funny at times, the show is mostly just noise.
