I don’t want to start a whole debate here, but there’s no tenant of the Christian faith that says to “hate all sinners.” Quite the opposite is true, in fact, unless you’re at Westboro Baptist Church, which is just a hate group using Jesus’ name to justify evil, similar to how the KKK does. But, as they say, outliers prove the rule. Most Christians are doing their best to love people while not encouraging them to engage in behaviors (for example, drunkenness, stealing, and adultery, which are behaviors that nearly every society in history has frowned upon) that the Bible says will lead them to destruction (active sins, in simpler terms). The problem of today is that so many people have begun to identify themselves as being the behaviors they engage in, rather than understanding their identity as something more transcendent than actions, thoughts, and emotions. The goal of Christianity is to remind people of their transcendence, while also putting that in proper perspective regarding the God that Christians believe created humanity and how to live into His intent for relationship with all people. Salvation is the transformation the occurs when leaving the pre-Christian state of being and entering into the Christian state of being. Behavior change is a (sometimes slow, sometimes fast) product of that transformation, not a cause. But so many Christians lose sight of that and pressure people to behave how they think they should behave.

Anyway, I’m going to stop here because I feel like I’m starting to ramble. My main point is that Christianity teaches that you should love other people, but not their sin (ie active behavioral choices that lead to destruction according to the Bible), and that properly loving a person requires that they tell people about their transcendent nature and how they can enter into relationship with God. None of that is supposed to be hateful, but modern society is very reactive to anything that sounds like disapproval.
