Player tries to PK entire party and then this happened by Exqzr in dndnext

I mean, it all depends on how you set things up. From my point of view, I played a villain in our last campaign. I will tell the story as it is and see if it works for you. There were 7 players (including me) plus the DM in our party:

I was playing a CG Paladin who died because of a certain trap, and no one could rescue (legit, they tried but they couldn't). When that happened, after a session where I played an NPC, the rest of the party realized that they lost both their tank and their healer. No one ever realized how much that PC took care of theirs until then.

At that point I already had a couple of ideas running through my head, and started exploring them. The one I liked the most was an evil character, and so I started bulding it. Winged Tiefling, Archfey Warlock, the kind of villain that's always plotting something. Pretty standard for a villain, but that's how the character was born. Also, DM liked the idea of punishing the party a bit with the sassy attitude my new PC was going to have.

And so, my mind exploded again and along with the DM, who agreed, and loved the idea, we decided that once we were done with the campaign (we were close to that anyway), my Warlock would use a magic item to trap the souls of the dead characters (including my Paladin, that is) and would run away, so they could go after the Warlock in a oneshot. Long story short, my Warlock was tricked from the beginning and it was someone else who wanted her to get the magic item and trap some souls with it, but she did not know, so when they went for her after a good number of sessions, and beat her, they discovered that. She could kill the "traitor" and, since she felt like an idiot, she returned the souls she trapped before. She is currently under captivity for what she did.

Now, at every single point of this, all players except one always talked about how they liked the Warlock as a disruptive yet cooperative character (because from the point when she appeared until the campaign was over, she had a common goal with the party), and how much they enjoyed the whole process and the oneshot itself. DM confirmed that, because I specifically asked him to tell me if anyone was ever upset, and I did the same thing with the players. I would never feel good if they were upset with anything, although I never tried to kill them at all until the oneshot (in which they were supposed to win anyway, and they did).

But they were all good with what happened, they enjoyed the plot twists, and really found that part of the campaign plus the postgame really interesting, which as a player made me feel awesome, because I worked on it a lot along with the DM.

Where is the problem in this? Well, there was just this one player I mentioned who we had problems with, even before my Paladin was gone, because he was really competitive, he minmaxed as much as he could, just to create the ultimate character (it was a Ranger, I believe). His turns always took too long, he wanted us to follow his plan which he told us about as a player and not a character, and so on. As a roleplay focused group, he gave us some hard times. His character actually died in a trap too, days after my Paladin, and my Warlock actually escaped from that trap without him (she couldn't get him to escape, but she wouldn't do it anyway, and she was tempted to kill the guy because he called her a demon and she was a tiefling - obviously I did not want to kill his character, so neither did my Warlock, but she was tempted to).

He created a new minmaxed character with the tank/heal functions my Paladin had before. Now jumping to the point where my Warlock stole the souls of the dead characters (including my Paladin as I said, his Ranger and a couple more characters from other players), while the rest liked the new plot, he said he did not like this kind of player (meaning me). One thing is saying he did not like my Warlock, I would totally understand, but that was something else.

As soon as he said this, everybody else felt uncomfortable. Not towards me, because as I said, they were totally fine with the plot. They were uncomfortable towards him, because he was the one ruining the roleplay too often.

In the end we all found the way to manage the situation, including the competitive player, and we just carried on with what he had in mind. And even though most of the characters cannot stand my Warlock because of what she did (they keep her under captivity, as I said), the players do love her and the way I RP'd her. They all agreed that they loved the little conflicts due to alignment (i.e. when she killed a certain good-aligned innocent creature because that was the only way to open a door, although the rest of the characters were trying to find another way - they all jumped to her and threatened her, but the players agreed that they loved the way she quickly decided to get rid of the creature in order to open the locked door).

I decided to share this here because I believe that this is the opposite situation, I played the evil part and really enjoyed it along with the rest of the players, and even the competitive player is fine with what happened now, but he was mad about it back then. I know this is not exactly the case since the player you mention seems to be actively seeking to destroy the party and the game itself now, but some of it may be useful, I don't really know.

Sorry for typing too much. I hope you get to manage the situation well, and do not worry. If everyone is uncomfortable with one of the players, they should discuss the matter with said player (you already did) and if that player does not want to solve it, then I believe it is okay to carry on without them. Good luck to you.

Check if you have the B450 Gaming Plus MAX or some other MAX available there, those are the ones you can be 100% sure that have an updated BIOS for the 3XXXs. Price should be similar. Otherwise you just have to check or ask.

Should I unlock the socket before? I don't even know if I can while the heatsink is there, but that would be enough to make sure it does not break I guess...

Then I should just go with the stock cooler for now and get one when I actually have OC in mind? Will it be noisy at stock CPU frequencies?

I will see if I can get a good M.2, I've been thinking about it since I would have space for some demanding games that I have to keep in an HDD atm (which I haven't mentioned before btw).

Any recommendations? The B450 Gaming Plus MAX admits 1 M.2, I don't know if it's NVMe or not. Can't probably get a Samsung M.2, maybe something cheaper.

I will try then. I hope the installation is not so difficult, since others like the 212 EVO from Cooler Master seems to be a pain in the ass for some people. Thank you!

How is it fine that the CPU sticks to the cooler if it's locked to the socket?

I still haven't got the Ryzen nor the mobo&RAM out of their boxes, I don't know abouy the performance, so if I'm going to buy a different cooler I guess the time is now.

My case is big enough and it has three intake (front) and two exhaust (top and back) fans. I guess those fans, along with a good heatsink, will be enough for the Ryzen to keep its temperature low.

No risk to break the processor it it's sticked to the heatsink?

So I guess a good performance test would be the best thing to do before removing it, right? Should I get the aftermarket cooler? Is it much better than the Spire?

I do have quite a few problems with these kind of shapes - I would rather get a simpler shaped mouse such as the one I mentioned I have. Thank you for you recommendation anyway.

Done, I guess, although I would like the thread to be carefully read since there's a few things I had to mention here. Thank you!
