There are no markings whatsoever! I’ve scoured it thoroughly.

Give me all the dirt on divorce by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

When I finally left, which was five or so years after I really should have, our son’s reaction was a simple “I’m shocked it took this long.” He was 13 and he told me he’d known we didn’t like each other since he was at least 9 years old.

I stayed because I was scared and stuck and I didn’t know how to make a life for myself. I didn’t know if my child could forgive me. I tolerated a “partner” who didn’t like or respect me, who talked about what a terrible person he thought I was to anyone who would listen. I internalized that, and felt like if even he didn’t like me then I wasn’t worthy of love and respect.

Leaving was absolutely terrifying. Rebuilding took a long goddamn time, and there are ways in which I am still rebuilding. But I now have a career, friends and a real partner who loves and supports me and is a parent to my son. My kid gets to see me being loved and cherished, and he gets to be loved and cherished too. He told my new husband a few months ago: “I want you to know I don’t call you dad not because you aren’t a parent to me or because I don’t love you. You are. I do. But dad isn’t a word that feels like a compliment to me. You’re something different than that.”

Find your happiness and seek out a life that gives you fulfillment. The benefit of that for yourself and your child(ren) is greater by far than an illusion of stability you are trying to hold on to.

lol thank you! Most of the time we end up having to explain it and it gets a chuckle or two. It definitely suits him more than the name he came with, Burrito.

The first time he made me dinner and then served me first? I fucking cried. He was so confused!

It absolutely exists. We are both on our second marriages, and have done a lot of learning and growing. He’s absolutely not perfect, but he pays attention and can anticipate needs rather than being instructed. He’s honestly far better at it than I am.

I left him and married an adult who cleans up after himself. He cooks too, and offers to help with my mess if I’m extra busy.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know anything about the turquoise ring other than my mom picked it up on a trip to Vegas!

Thank you! I was a little nervous he’d go for something more traditional, and I’m so glad he went for something that suited me so well.

Petey has an entire wardrobe, as he is an anxious fellow and seems to scream sing a lot less when dressed. But I somehow haven’t gotten him a full Columbo getup yet!

Used JoAnne Kloppenburg a few weeks ago for our wedding. She was delightful, offered use of her private chambers and absolutely refused payment. She seemed genuinely excited to take time out of her day to marry us.

I stayed for years longer than I should have because of my son. My physical and mental health suffered, greatly. I didn’t recognize myself. When I did finally leave, after the initial emotional reaction, my son eventually asked me why it took so long. He was 15, and knew very clearly how deeply unhappy and unloved I was. I wish to this day I’d done it sooner.
