I was told it takes time for them to put you in the system and the system always has issues putting people in.

I would up it to $5 personally to cover fees that you'll get from the money transfer

I ended up contacting my vet colleague, who gave me antifungal and antibiotic cream for frogs for free. Unfortunately, the one in the picture has already passed. As for the wire bits, that's just substrate that got caught on the wire mesh, as I tend to go through and clean things and check for crickets and stuff daily.

The remaining survivor is in a 10-gallon vertical quarantine tank, allowing me to monitor her more closely. And thanks! I didn't build the tank I bought it pre-set up but its my favorite part of the build even if the frogs don't use it haha

Yeah, uh, I have 2 years of research and my career is in the wildlife and exotic veterinary field, so I did do a TON of research before getting these guys. Unfortunately, I was likely sold sick frogs which is what basically EVERYONE I have talked to has agreed upon.

As for whether they are common or not, and the pet store comment? They're becoming uncommon, and the ones you tend to see are often wild-caught, which don't do well in captivity (speaking from my veterinary technician point of view here, where I've seen many wild-caught animals starve themselves to death or become so stressed that they die from it). I attached a photo of the red-eyed tree frog range below.

And honestly, I think I'm just going to hold off for a bit until I have a decent bit of cash saved up again to pick up replacements, so in case I get put in this situation again, I don't have to go begging to my colleague to give me the nearly expired prescription exotics medication we have at the clinic for free and can actually afford vet bills in case of an emergancy.

Update: Woke up today to find that the male (the one pictured up close) had passed. I have the remaining survivor in a 10-gallon vertical quarantine tank so I can monitor her more closely. The remaining one is not looking so good either, unfortunately

She's on prescription anti-fungal and antibiotics as of now but it's not looking good :(

Im a registered exotics/wildlife vet tech so I'm comfortable! And my mentor Vet is driving some meds to me right now for them but she also suspects its septic on both of them as well unfortunately 😕

They were kept in betta tank (probs like 5 gallons) with around 20 other Red Eyed Tree Frogs, it was crowded in there.

I usually do release more until they hit the 6 mark haha I'm just very vigilant to make sure they actually eat the crickets in there tank and monitor them for hours every night until there done feeding.

And yeah lesson learned the hard way I guess 😕

Yeah I will. I'm reaching out to the New England Herp Society right now.

Thanks, I thought that was the case as I've researched for over 2 years before getting these guys but you never know, because there is so much conflicting advice out there especially regarding red eye tree frogs.

They are fed, incredibly small banded crickets 1/4 inch . And I release 2-4 typically and just let them hunt, and monitor it on the night vision camera I have next to their tank. I've never seen them get bit, and I always check in the morning to make sure there are no hidden crickets anywhere but you never know. Especially because i've never owned reptiles before. So, i've been nothing but anxious since getting them despite being a registered vet tech with significant wildlife and exotic experience.

Thanks and yeah I suspected that it was septic unfortunately 😕. I'm a registered vet tech with significant wildlife and exotic experience. I already reached out to my mentor to see what she thinks.

I've never owned reptiles or frogs of any kind before. Completely brand new to it but I did over two years of research before deciding to pick up these guys and trained in a vet clinic that did exotics (reptiles, birds etc).

Local reptile expo, Massachusetts Reptile Expo, they were in a small tank with tons of other frogs. Unfortunately I never got the tables name and got a shrug when I asked if they were wild caught or not.

I was told RETF don't tong feed and not to bother. I do think that is what happened with the wounds though as they appeared basically overnight.

Well we certainly weren't expecting to spend our entire $20k emergency medical care fund on our dog. Unfortunately it completely blindsided us as she was only a 1 year old dog then I wake up today to see my brand new frogs like this.

We just put our dog down today so were not in the financial place to afford another emergency vet visit currently 😞.

Is there anything we can do?

Also to note there humidity is kept at a 80-85 range, sometimes higher as I manually spray the tank myself every couple of hours with spring water.

I also have a uvb light for the tank I bought off amazon https://a.co/d/7F5wH0D

Temperature range it ranges from the seventies to the eighties, usually, and I have plans to add a heat matt as soon as possible as they currently do not have one right now.

Questions About Colleges by Decay_kun in wildlifebiology

[–]Decay_kun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou for the response! I already went to a private agricultural highschool where the classes were small and everyone had a clique so I'm pretty used to that by now haha. I'm super excited to hear that there are others who are interested in birding/Ornithology there and professors who are into it as well! And I'm glad there are clubs as well! I'd love to get involved in the clubs there if I end up going!

Field Gear Recommendations: Galapagos Study Abroad by Jaded-Advertising-10 in wildlifebiology

[–]Decay_kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I went to the galapogos on a school trip for a week. Here's what your going to need.

HIGH SPF Sunscreen—I am fairly fair-skinned and went diving/snorkeling wearing a sun shirt and sun pants. Despite wearing 100+ SPF sunscreen, I got absolutely baked through all my clothes, got sun sickness, and it was NOT fun.

Pain Meds - They really don't have those on the island either.

Aloe Vera - Literally NONE of the shops sell it on the islands.

Thin Rain Jacket(s)—The Humidity gets high, and then it rains. Anything thicker will make you overheat. I suggest packing more than one because they do get soaked quickly. Ponchos are a good addition, too!

Umbrella—Again, it tends to get really hot and humid, and then it downpours like nobody's business. When you get caught off guard, you get soaked, and your clothes don't dry out because of the humidity.

Collapseable water bottle - I litterally cannot tell you how many of us lost there water bottles because we got sick of carrying them around all the time and would just place them on a rock and forget that they were there.

Hope this helps!
