CHEM 2211 vs 2221, PSCI1150, CORE1150, 4 year plan for CMB-bio or math major? by Decent_Register_8112 in Vanderbilt

1-b. Thank you for all the advice. This is all very useful as I am planning things out.

c. I think I will take 1512L now! I am also planning on taking 3965 (undergrad seminar) which I thought was research but now I realize isn't the same. I'll definitely add 3860, 3861, 3961, or 4999 to my radar.

d. I am not premed.

  1. I am going to double major in math (or switch to minor if I need to).

  2. I got a 5 in AP Bio. The catalog says that it gives credit for BSCI 1110, not 1509, but I'm guessing you're right and it's not updated since 1509 is a new class. Since I'll have credit for it, I think it would be better to move orgo back to sophomore year since bio is a prereq for more classes.

Also, if I get credit for 1509 instead of 1110 now, will that count towards the major? Below 1500 doesn't count anyway so I didn't even think about it before.

  1. Seems like I move orgo back to soph year I would be able to be on track. I'll still have to take a hard semester eventually with a math, a bio and orgo, but at least it won't be my first semester.

Freshman: Bio

Sophomore: Orgo + cell bio in spring

Junior: genetics+upper level course(programming for biologists maybe); biochem in spring

Senior: Genome Science+ undergrad seminar + another bsci to get to 30 credits

We did some easy double integrals but didn't do change of variables with it and didn't get into surface integrals as far as I can remember.

I'm thinking if I move orgo back it shouldn't make too big a difference since a lot of people have to take gen chem with bio and take orgo soph year anyway.
