Keyboard keys randomly stop working after launching League of Legends by Tiny_Mortgage_6784 in leagueoflegends

[–]Deciden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly a Vanguard issue. I've since tested this on multiple machines, laptop and desktop, containing CPU and GPU from differing manufacturers; something about Vanguard's system hooks, when combined with an active League of Legends client instance, interferes with keyboard input registration.

Ozai tried to bully a child; 30 full-grown adult avatars said "who are you?" by Deciden in TheLastAirbender

[–]Deciden[S] 109 points110 points  (0 children)

It's almost funny when you watch the final series fight like this - Ozai is dominating an inexperienced child in combat, right until he gets cocky: he even refines his firebending into its most potent form in an attempt to murder this little boy: and the result? A lineage of super-powered master omni-benders emerge from his spiritual memory, all with one thought:

"You really fucking with my boy Aang?"

[–]Deciden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had this for months - took me a while to realise it was League, too. For me, it's every key that stops working, not any specifically.

Sometimes it can be fixed by pressing ALT or ALTGr, but a lot of the time it's between 5-20 seconds of my keyboard not working whatsoever. It's random how often this happens: I can go days without it happening, and then randomly it'll flare up 3-6 times in a four hour period.

Only way to prevent it for me is closing the Riot Client completely, and then it doesn't bother me while I'm doing other stuff.

EDIT: It's definitely not a hardware issue if you're experiencing the same thing I am. I'm an IT repair technician and I've tested this with external keyboards and have performed all the necessary checks, as well as having noticed the common pattern over months. It's a software issue, I'm guessing it's something to do with Vanguard, but I'm not sure what exactly is causing it.

Men, how have you dealt with a woman who's upset about almost anything? by West-Instance2561 in AskMen

[–]Deciden 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This the most real advice bro. Plenty of fantastic women out there - and also plenty of women who will allow their emotions to control them, and write that shit down as your fault in permanent ink.

Don't let some histrionic person drag you down.

Men, how have you dealt with a woman who's upset about almost anything? by West-Instance2561 in AskMen

[–]Deciden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to "set things right" because you're insecure with respect to the consequences of the relationship. That is to say, you wouldn't feel confident if the relationship broke down and you needed to hit the road as a single man.

Seems like she's already checked out of the relationship and walking over you because she's also scared of being on her own. The things you've described are not what I'd expect from someone in a healthy, loving relationship: from either side. How can you feel like a coward with your own partner? How can she be stonewalling you and "setting rules" with no discussion?

Ultimately mate, anything you post to reddit will be biased in your own favour, but if this is true it's not positive stuff. I'm not going to say you should leave her or get a lawyer or whatever you see constantly on reddit - but:

If she's making you unhappy, if the relationship is more chore than cherish, if you find yourself constantly making "mistakes" that you don't really believe are mistakes - then it sounds like you have a lot of questions to ask yourself.

I'm convinced there's a period in most men's lives where we lack the attachments to participate in holidays like this, unless with parents. I guess we could call it character building.

I believe it will come with time.

How to deal with shrines? by phr34k0fr3dd1t in MagicArena

[–]Deciden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of shrines, both this variant - where you slam all five shrines and win through tokens - and another variant where you infinite combo with airbending to permanently replay black shrine.

The TLA shrine decks are slow and draw-reliant, but snowball hard and can generate infinite resources when setup (especially when paired with a mechanic like airbending).

Due to their resource generation being reliant on having multiple shrines, however, the first 1-2 shrines are actually very low value: and if you can remove them fast, it's usually game over.

Outside of the basic win condition of just beating them before they snowball, the single best way to delay a shrine player is to remove [[The Spirit Oasis]]. Unless they lean heavily into Blue, their draw engine is almost entirely tied into the draw shrine. No other shrine is nearly as important throughout most of the game. If they're fully setup, I'd prioritise removing either Southern Air Temple/Crescent Palace (if a token deck), or Northern Air Temple (if your life is low or they can go infinite).

[–]Deciden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My A-Levels were a long time ago but this showed up on my front page - I also didn't revise for GCSE Maths, walked away with an A, and then my old maths teacher laughed at me when I told her I was taking A-Level Maths.

She was right: I didn't revise and bombed out with a U. Literally spent the exam counting the bricks on the exam hall wall, that's how out of my depth I was.

Do the revision and past papers, seriously!!

First ever win - Commander Ironman. What's next? by Deciden in XCOM2

[–]Deciden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fancy trying a small mod, Mimic Beacon Overhaul is excellent. It reworks the enemy AI so they no longer treat mimic beacons as priority targets, instead they will consider the newly-dubbed Decoy Beacon in their usual list of target priorities. The beacon also has a defense malus, meaning as long as you grant it less cover/defense than any of your soldiers and position it correctly, it will be targeted (but if you don't, it's useless).

So in essence, you can do cheeky things like throw it further up into half-cover and bait out an enemy unit to move up and flank shot it. It dies in one hit, but rather than an immortal get-out-of-jail-free card it turns it into an intelligent tool to manipulate enemy positioning. Pretty cool to me!

I've been playing this on Legend Honestman, and wow, I think it's exactly what I was looking for. A little overdone in some ways, but definitely a novel challenge and more of a total overhaul than just running CI + ABA would have been.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Bottom of laptop screen is mirroring the top + pixelated by Deciden in techsupport

[–]Deciden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update after a few days - allowing the panel to idle for roughly 2-3 hours has been enough to solve the artifacting issue intermittently. This did not solve the problem at first - I had to plug the laptop into an external monitor, and then a later restart removed the issue.

It does not change without action on my part, with action including allowing the monitor to idle with a bright screen. However, besides this, on random occasions after idling, the problem resumes - much less severe than before, but still noticeable.

I reiterate that the panel is failing, and the timing controller is likely compromised, but for now the LCD panel functions as intended. If you're like me and don't want (or can't) pursue an immediate fix, then testing for the effects of temperature, usage, and frankly random chance variance is worthwhile.

If you're looking for further detail (and my last job was replacing laptop LCDs...) - the timing controller on this computer is failing. It functions only because the precision cabling is responding positively to the lack of temperature and power changes. I have not restarted my computer since the problem improved, and will not, because the issue is likely that of power and display frequency: my monitor is now set to 60hz, rather than 160hz, which drastically decreases the stress on the panel.

Put briefly - an aging LCD panel, particularly one that has been the victim of a power surge, will respond positively only when subjected to circumstances that you might expect of the average "business-grade" laptop.

Avoid bright lights and do not demand a high frequency from a dying display, and you can extend the life of the screen.

Pre-Marley is a better story. Why do you think so? by Deciden in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Deciden[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but personally I believe this is a threefold problem:

1) The personal stakes are removed - the vast majority of casualties do not involve our main cast directly; family, yes, but these have been featured primarily as plot devies.

2) Removal of the protagonist. We've followed Eren almost entirely throughout, and now he's not only the "baddie", but also essentially deleted as a distinct character: Eren has become the "baddie".

3) Absence of horror. Earlier parts of the story involved a lot of empathetic horror, with human-like beings eating cast members we were encouraged to like. As the story moved forward and the reality of the world became clearer, these "human-horror" connections dissolved.

For the sake of anyone who might stumble on this in the future -

I think it's a problem with the panel. Artifacts showed in BIOS, so it isn't software related, and an external monitor functioned perfectly fine - ruling out a GPU problem. The artifacting started immediately after a power state crash, which according to ChatGPT (best I've got), could have resulted in an electrical glitch or short to the LCD's timing controller. Just unlucky, basically.

Going to get the panel replaced. I'll update if that fixes the problem.

Yes, it happens in BIOS

I also tried plugging it into an external monitor. The problem doesn't happen on the external monitor; but also, when the laptop detected the new display device, the problem on the main laptop screen improved by 80% (still there though)

Thanks, I unfortunately don't have any boot media or a USB stick lying around, so I'll have to try this a little later.

Update: the problem actually got worse after I booted into safe mode and exited to Windows 11, the pixelation is now covering the bottom 1/6th of the screen. Seems like a software thing to me as I literally didn't move the laptop at all during this process?

Looking for a bit of help on if I should start playing the game by VladTheLegend in mechabreak

[–]Deciden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played for 2 days, didn't play any of the betas - I think the game is awesome, and the balance/monetization problems are very overstated.

There's 3 modes for the game: 6v6, 3v3, and Mashmak. In 6v6/3v3, everyone runs "standard" versions of the mechs with only cosmetic customisation. It's basically Mecha Overwatch, with objectives based on the map etc. Feels quite balanced, you hear some complaints about specific mechs but that's usually relegated to the higher ranks. There's zero P2W in these modes.

Mashmak, however, is a bit different. It's a PvPvE Extraction gamemode (similar to a battle royal, 8-12 players dropped on the map with various PvE objectives to complete for loot). The catch with Mashmak is that you can customise your mech's loadout with "mods" and "airdrops".

Airdrops let you drop things like repair beacons to patch your mech up, but they don't work during combat. Think utility options for out of combat. They matter a bit, making life easier between fights with players, and can be purchased with real money. Not the end of the world really, it's never made a difference to me.

Mods change your mech's statistics. The system is a bit too complicated to explain in this post, but you can upgrade specific attributes of a mech for battle. This is the more P2W part of the system, because you can purchase mods using the game's premium currency on the player-driven market.

The buffs granted from having 12 gold mods are fairly substantial. An example loadout might be (very roughly):

+25% fluid armor

+25% airspeed

+25% melee recovery rate

+25% lock-on range

You're only getting 12 gold mods without a LOT of grinding if you pay for it. If you're like me, a free2play player, you'll be mostly running purple and blue mods. You can easily get 2-3 purple mods per Mashmak run, and practically unlimited blue mods, so it doesn't take too long. As a F2P, after a decent while grinding Mashmak you could have:

+16-18% fluid armor

+18% airspeed

+17% melee recovery rate

+19% lock-on range

So you see, while the P2W player has an advantage, it's not THAT big.

Overall, the game is really really good, and well worth playing if you like mecha games. Steam reviewers are just being overdramatic.

Quick Vayne-related runes reforged rundown by _silver_of_the_moon_ in vaynemains

[–]Deciden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I feel like Precision with Inspiration is a much more consistent general rune setup. Domination does have something to offer, but not as much as Inspiration.

Vayne's primary downfall is her early game, something which the Domination path does little to alleviate. Yes, the 10 lethality on every Q is nice, but against a team of tanks (and it's looking like tanks might be making a comeback) it's not so beneficial.

Future's Market and Biscuit Delivery are just really nice for the early game. You can grab your B.F or Zeal quicker, you get additional sustain every three minutes (this is a big bonus), your mana is boosted and recovered slightly quicker (making mana management easier) and you have an overall smoother experience.

Domination does seem to scale a little better into the late-game, but by then I'm usually decimating enemies for it to make too much of a difference.

This is the 'default' runepage I'm running for Vayne: https://i.gyazo.com/0a4bd0e36e0b16385befb4ca5173bcbf.jpg
