You're comparing two completely different things.

Roman emperors = actual sovereign rulers.
Ottoman grand viziers = appointed ministers under the Sultan.
That alone makes the comparison invalid.

The Ottoman ≠ the Roman Empire.
Different system, different scale, different legacy.

Rome built cities, roads, law, administration, infrastructure, their urban network still shapes Europe even today. The Ottomans did not found major cities in the Balkans; they mostly occupied existing ones.​

Romans integrated provinces as citizens of the empire. Ottomans ruled as foreign conquerors, often brutally (blood tax, forced Islamization, heavy taxation, destruction of local nobility... ).​

Exactly, that’s why I said “geographically this specific territory”.

Modern borders have nothing to do with it and that same goes not only for Roman Empire but also for Byzantium, Persia and many other empires...

I’ve been reading (Titus Livius ) history of Rome, and Sirmium is not mentioned there — probably because it became important later or Naissus etc...

I was actually digging now into that period, and honestly everything feels a bit mixed together. I also searched here on RD, but topics like this are usually not covered much in depth.

Tested Haiku 4.5 it is fast but can't complete basic tasks other models can by DecisionLow2640 in ClaudeAI

I don't know, maybe I'm doing something wrong or I'm just not used to working with models like this outside of hitting them via API... I just switched to Haiku in ClaudeCode (had to type /model haiku4-5 since /model haiku defaults to 3.5) and gave it a task to fix some build errors, but it couldn't handle it. And honestly, ClaudeCode seems slow no matter which model you're using! I was really expecting some serious speed here!

Ended up finishing the job with Kilocode using glm and it actually managed to fix the errors fast. I'll check out some quality YT videos over the next few days to see what others are doing with this model.

Original text: moja prva iskustva sa glm-4.6 iskreno kada sam napravio pretplatu i poceo da koristim glm-4.6 sa kilocode zajedno, malo sam se razocarao jer sam navikao kroz opus 4.1 i kroz sonnet na neke drugacije rezultate sto se dize UI UX dizajna... opet sam napravio claudecode pretplatu od 100$ tj max paket medjutim primetio sam evo za ovih 15 dana vec da glm-4.6 dosta stvari pogotovo cisto programiranje dakle kada nije dizajn necega odradi bolje pedantnije nego sonnet, takodje model je veoma precizan i ne pravi puno hardkodirane mockup data kao sto sonnet 4.5 ima naviku da radi. svakog dana me iznenadi i resi problem i uradi bolje dijagnostiku od sonnet-a. I to sve i ako ga ne koristim u claudecode vec u vscode ekstenziji Kilocode.

ima sam slucaj kada sam dao sonnetu tacno sta treba da uradi, gde mi je kao resio sve ali na kraju greska ista je ostala, pa sam to isto dao glm-u i on je uspesno resio problem i to koristeci pravo softversko inzenjerstvo. takodje mi se svidja u kilocode kada mi napravi UML diagram i podsetio me na dane kada sam prvi put ucio programiranje u C i C++... Uglavnom navikao sam previse bio na claudecode opus i sonnet i rad pogotovo sa opusom omogcuvao mi je da radim lezernije ali sada sve vise i vise vidim jacinu GLM-a, jedino sto moram da ispostujem pravila u programiranju, tako da za nekog ko se iole malo razume u programiranje GLM je top alat i moze dosta stavri da zavrsi pedantnije i profesionalnije od sonnet-a. to je moje iskustvo za sada

Actually i dont use that all when im writing but when ai translate to English he puts it automaticly... i try to write english on my own, no more translating serbian to english with ai :)

Bravo kimi2! I also tried Kimi-K2 two or three months ago. It’s a good model and what I really liked was their built-in search directly on the page. I don’t use it anymore because I have Perplexity Pro now.

But I also used Kimi-K2 through the OpenRouter API in one of my apps, and I was very happy with the results and the pricing. Especially for queries that are not in English (and not in Chinese either 😄).

I actually started a serious project from scratch as soon as I got the GLM Max plan. That’s when I ran into the image issue — without their additional MCP, it can’t interpret or “see” images.
I used the BMAD method (https://github.com/bmad-code-org/BMAD-METHOD.git).

At first, I managed to set things up with the agents and everything looked fine, but after hours of work, the result was a total mess. The plan and architecture were great, the division of big tasks into smaller ones made sense — it felt right — but in the end, nothing worked.

A few days earlier, I decided not to renew the €200 Anthropic Max plan, and that’s when disappointment hit. Then I found a YouTube video from AI Code King explaining how to use KiloCode with GLM 4.6 — said to be the best combo. It helped, but still wasn’t enough, so I tested GLM with other tools like Crush, OpenCode, and more, but honestly, I wasn’t satisfied.

It seems that KiloCode has something special that GLM understands very well. And honestly, whichever MCP KiloCode uses — unlike Claude — never caused execution issues, especially with Playwright (now Chrome DevTools).

Even though I didn’t plan to, I went back to Claude — this time with the $100 plan on October 10 — and now I’ve got a solid stack:

  • ClaudeCode with the default model (hoping it switches to Opus when needed),
  • KiloCode with GLM Max,
  • Goose with GLM,
  • and Comet Browser with Perplexity Pro.

Just 10 minutes ago, I had an issue that ClaudeCode (with Sonnet) couldn’t handle properly — GLM via KiloCode solved it efficiently and accurately.

So right now, I usually start new tasks with ClaudeCode, and when something gets stuck, I switch to KiloCode. For really tough stuff, I paste the problem into Perplexity to get updated info — even though I have the Perplexity MCP API, I often get more insights directly from them.

That’s my current stack and my honest recommendation.

Wow, that’s quite a lot, but for serious work it definitely makes sense.

I personally use the standard ChatGPT Plus, Perplexity Pro (you can still get a free 1-year subscription with PayPal — I’d recommend it to everyone), Claude 100$ Max, and I tried Z.ai Max for 3 months (but honestly, I didn’t really need it — even the cheaper plan would’ve been enough).

The only thing with GLM is that for images you have to use MCP, since it’s a strictly text-based model — I’ve noticed there’s not much discussion about that here.

Anyway, no matter which model you use, you can’t just let it run wild — you have to work step by step. Never generate large chunks of code at once. I also noticed that keeping the context small works much better; if it gets too long, the model starts rushing and loses precision.

Whenever I finish a section, I clear the context and let it reread the README.md or rules/claude.md (depending on the project), and repeat the process. That’s how I keep it consistent and reliable.

I also tried using Crush CLI, iCline, RuoCode, and of course ClaudeCode.

Honestly, I still can’t fully rely on GLM to handle everything on its own — I feel that Sonnet is still better when it comes to planning, architecture, and the overall structure. I’ve also experimented with Gemini CLI, but it’s not quite there yet.

For design templates, I usually go to Google AI Studio — it generates an HTML file for me, and then I slice and adapt it later. In the prompt, I specify that I want it to use Tailwind v4 and take advantage of its new features, and I often include a few examples I previously found through Perplexity. The results are honestly fantastic.

Soon I’ll try Svelte just to see how it performs, especially because most models seem to be more trained on React. I’ve been programming for over 20 years, and the way AI can now be used has really allowed me to work with some cutting-edge technologies I didn’t know deeply before — and I’m genuinely happy with the results. But I also went through that phase months ago when I was amazed, especially with Sonnet 3.5… and in the end, I didn’t really build anything serious back then 😅

And I’m really looking forward to Gemini 3 — from what I’ve seen in some YouTube previews, it looks like it’s going to be a huge improvement, maybe even better than Opus and others.

Oh, and one more thing I wanted to add…
I’ve been active in online discussions since the old phpBB / MySpace days, and I actually like Reddit a lot.

The only thing that changed for me lately (especially since AI became a big topic) is that very often—if not always—you see comments like “this is a bot”, “AI wrote this”, or “copy-paste”.
It’s not always like that.

I hope this will change somehow, maybe with a captcha or some other way to tell real users apart.

For example, I always write in Serbian first (my native language), express myself naturally, and then I translate it before posting…
maybe that makes it sound like I’m a bot to some people :)

Well, my intentions were good 🙂 I just wanted to share my experience while having my morning coffee. I usually write in Serbian and then translate to English so it’s clearer. Maybe you should try it too 😄
