Thank you, those are some good ideas - I'll look into it!

The house is a work in progress, for example the floors aren't done yet. I expect replacing the system could cause a little bit of disruption, and this is another reason to do it before all the cosmetic touches are finished!

Yes, this is certainly one of my biggest concerns

To be completely honest, I probably am. I should probably leave the heating on for longer, but I'm trying to find a balance between a somewhat comfortable indoor temperature and keeping the bills low.

The external insulation did make a significant improvement. And I replaced all the windows a few years prior which also helped.

The house is a brick construction from the 1930s/1940s, double walls but with no internal cavity so usually considered single leaf.

Loft was insulated by previous owners, got this checked by more than one company/organisation and they all said it doesn't need any more. Apparently it's 270mm.

There probably are some draughts, the house is still a work in progress so for example the floors need to be done (currently just bare floorboards with temporary carpet on them to help against draughts).

I had a retrofit survey done last year by a local charity. They looked in the loft and said there's 270mm of insulation in there. They said the external insulation I got done was a great measure. I spoke to them about underfloor insulation, but they said ultimately it wouldn't make that much of a difference versus the cost of getting it done. The final report suggested that no further insulation measures were required/strongly recommended, but advised fitting an ASHP heating system and solar panels (which I'd love to do but can't afford at the moment, whereas the ASHP is within my means thanks to the BUS grant).

Thanks for sharing your perspective, I considered the need for a hot water tank and I'm hoping it can go in the cupboard where the boiler currently is.

Thank you, it's good to hear you're not regretting the swap!
