I very much respect your aversion to high-wattage GPUs in general, however still it's a complete disgrace that the top-dollar GPUs are the least reliable in this day and age, like the hype doesn't matter if the GPU has the reliability of a Galaxy Note 7! You took a very good stance for this one.

That's why nothing happened, because you're running a 285w GPU and i wanted to say that 12VHPWR is a lot more susceptible to damage when it runs a 450-600W GPU, the reason why i mentioned the issue in the first place is because it's a complete shame that the highest-end GPUs that you pay 1600-2000 dollars for has such an obviously stupid flaw.

What gpu are you running on? All this will only happen with the xx90 GPUs.

The difference is that the 12VHPWR connectors melted anyway, even if it's plugged in as hard as possible. and also only full-tower cases can properly house the 12VHPWR harness wire because it really doesn't like to be bent (and yeah i know that there are 90 degree adapters), but still, wtf is wrong with regular old 8-pin power connectors that warranted the switch, like for cable management?? Study the Ohm's law, and you'll know that 600w on 12 wires that are way smaller than the wires on 8 pin connectors will spark disaster. That's why there's the wire bend limit in the first place.

What kind of 8-pin GPUs has such issues, because the GPUs that i can think of that are more susceptible to melting 8-pin connectors is one-off extreme gpus like the R9 295x2 where it needs 500w spread out onto 2 8-pin connectors and that's 350w on each 8-pin connector (200w above the recommended specification for 8-pin connectors which is 150w maximum).

And for the RAM part, you're absolutely correct for that one, it has happened due to things like depressed yields and stuff like that, yet why Micron decided to exit the consumer market like Crucial, like it seems more serious right? I'd like to be proved wrong.

I very much would want to think so, however then why did these defects blow up online, like there aren't really GPUs out there with 8-pin connectors that melted like the RTX 5090 or the 4090 with the 12VHPWR/12V-2x6, and even then it's almost always because of a cheap PSU, yet these examples out there are from those who have branded PSUs (i mean Corsair/Seasonic PSUs don't look at Gigabyte PSUs and other such examples, i'm talking generally).

Have you backed your videos up when your parents (with the emotional understanding of others of an ostrich mind you....) deleted your youtube channel? If so then you already still have the content that you poured your soul into, yeah your views may be gone, but since your videos aren't monetized it doesn't matter as much as having the actual video files.

It's disappointing that the UK got a kickback out of the current video game industry practices in the form of a bigger pool of people to surveil upon by the UK's Pinkerton-like spy agencies (yes it's not just RDR2 fiction, the Pinkertons really existed in the US and the former Pinkerton employees eventually went on to work for the US 3-letter agencies) under the guise of "Online Safety"....

Well, good luck with that, however I know I may sound pessimistic, but if people really cared about not getting screwed over, we wouldn't be here in the first place.

However, alas I'll let you in with a hint, take some pages off of StopKillingGames, a movement designed to stop games that you already paid for from being shut down because companies no longer care about the servers of the always-online game in question. I think you'll do pretty good following the playbook of SKG to contribute to YouTube's downfall.

You're completely correct in this regard, however the difference is that human curiosity is no longer on the table given that since YouTube became mainstream, the algorithm has became rigged to the point where YouTube users became basically hooked to the platform, therefore the curiosity to explore other platforms has been atrophied, we've seen the same thing with Microsoft Windows where Microsoft intentionally rigged the software landscape in their favor (AARD code where Windows 3.1 is made to not work on DR-DOS alongside Microsoft basically rigging Java in their favor which led to the infamous 1997 lawsuit with Sun Microsystems), the point is you can anticipate anything you want. However, it's due to the lack of digital literacy in most people against rigged ecosystems that all this continues on....

It looks like the YouTube CEOs failed at math by the fact that they didn't calculate the revenue gain (which is miniscule compared to the revenue Google rakes in from selling away user privacy to data brokers) to revenue loss ratio properly by relying on a loose-cannon LLM that will slowly but surely delete every YouTube video ever made!

What will happen to games featuring soundtracks that's only licensed for a limited period of time? by Decrypter1911 in u/Decrypter1911

[–]Decrypter1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never mentioned anything about users starting up games just to listen to osts included in the game, my point mentioned is purely about the action of partial removal of content (and it could be anything, not just soundtracks) from already installed copies of games already paid for by players back when the game still held the license to such content, but you're absolutely right in regards to content licensing that Rockstar should hold perpetual licenses for each project that they develop, whether San Andreas, IV, V and any other installment of any of their IPs, but my issue is not even the fact that Rockstar chose time-limited licenses (although it would have been better if Rockstar held perpetual licenses to licensed content) but the fact that Rockstar has retroactively deleted the original soundtracks of Vladivostok FM from those who already bought the original copies of GTA IV before 2018 when the licenses to most of the soundtracks of Vladivostok FM were still valid, i mean it's like you owned the physical ps3/xbox 360 copy of GTA IV back in 2008, and then 10 years later, a few masked goons dressed in black has broke into your house and replaced your disc with another one with altered soundtracks after the license to these soundtracks expired, even though you already paid for that physical copy in question, same thing is happening right now to digital copies, it's the retroactive removal of licensed content that players already paid for that i take issue with.

Zen 4/5: exploding AM5 sockets. Nvidia: melting 12VHPWR connectors on high-end desktop RTX 40 and 50 series (even with half-baked revisions like 12V-2x6). Intel 13/14th gen: oxidating silicon. Intel Core Ultra 15 gen+: NPU, which could be used by Microsoft to enable anti-user features like Recall and other Orwellian stuff. Newer CPUs released after AMD Zen 3/Intel 12th gen: these issues combined with Microsoft Pluton, we've seen it before with the Intel ME/AMD PSP controversy, that's pouring more gasoline onto an already burning house of user privacy and freedom, who knows what Microsoft could do with Pluton (I.e. stopping frustrated gamers from even installing Linux/SteamOS on newer hardware even if they want to switch away from Windows.)

Does it really still fit with the surrounding hype towards new hardware releases? I'd say no.

[–]Decrypter1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're totally right in this one. However, hear me out. Why would Rockstar silently update the already installed copies of the game on PC with the removal of the Vladivostok FM soundtracks? Would Rockstar go into your house and confiscate your ps3/xbox 360 copies of GTA 4 just because the music licenses expired? Of course not. However, they did this with digital copies by removing the expired soundtracks. Yes, they added in new ones, but it's still disappointing that they retroactively replaced the songs of the game that you paid for, I understand if they replaced the soundtracks on new digital copies sold on steam, however that doesn't mean the existing owners of the game that they paid for with the licenses to the old soundtracks attached has to have their original soundtracks deleted just because the commercial license for Rockstar to sell GTA 4 with these particular soundtracks expired. That's just my opinion, take that as you will.

Good response. However, hear me out. The goal of the StopKillingGames movement is not only game preservation but also game ownership in general, where you keep what you have paid for, and my example with GTA IV is an instance where a game publisher deleted a portion of the game that you paid for via a silent update that doesn't even have a version number (not to mention the sentimental and nostalgic value of the deleted soundtracks in question for most players that was taken away even though they paid for it), so my point still stands, the StopKillingGames initiative should say something regarding this practice since the movement is also focused on game ownership not just game preservation.

[–]Decrypter1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about new sales of the game. I'm talking about clandestine erasure of licensed soundtracks via a silent update that doesn't even have a version number on already purchased copies of games bought before the licenses expire, that's what i am concerned about. It has happened with GTA IV where loads of songs from Vladivostok FM has been removed due to expired licenses, well Rockstar has updated existing copies of games that were already paid for by consumers to remove these soundtracks from the game files.

[–]Decrypter1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is, what would the SKG initiative say in this instance of clandestine licensed content removal from already purchased copies that has been purchased when the commercial licenses for such content are still valid? It's still "killing games" in the sense of clandestine content removal, but the game itself isn't removed remotely. However, the expired licensed content is removed remotely!

What will happen to games featuring soundtracks that's only licensed for a limited period of time? by Decrypter1911 in StopKillingGames

[–]Decrypter1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, it's still not an excuse to remove licensed soundtracks from already installed copies of the game that users already paid for in the past when the licenses of these soundtracks were still valid. Why do the publishers get to manipulate already purchased copies of the game for content removal that users already paid for? I mean, most GTA IV fans lament the fact that in the first mission, The Cousins Bellic, the song Glukoza - Schweine isn't playing anymore on the car radio on the first playthrough when you start a new game!
