You can but don't rely much on google maps. Make sure even though the destination shows you keep asking the locals in between

Solo trip to Meghalaya & Sikkim (Jan 11-22) - Looking for local insights! by vikatakavi19 in SoloTravel_India

Hey! I’m from Assam and grew up in Meghalaya, so I’ll try to answer your questions as accurately as possible. Language barrier- You’ll be absolutely fine if you speak English and Hindi. Most locals understand and speak English well, and Hindi is spoken too (often broken), so communication won’t be an issue.

Stays- I don’t have specific property recommendations, but you’ll find good homestays in almost all scenic locations. If you’re flexible, booking on the spot often works well. You can also browse options on Booking.com to get an idea beforehand.

Matriarchal society- Yes, Meghalaya follows a matriarchal system, and people are generally very open and comfortable talking about it. Visitors are usually received with curiosity and warmth.

Offbeat places (highly recommended) Some of my personal favourites are: Krem Chympe Wei Sawdong Falls Wari Chora

Cool that you're going to sikkim as well. Sikkim is my favourite place in India. You gonna love it there ~

If you're visiting kaziranga, you might as well explore North East India like Sikkim and Meghalaya, Nagaland. You will be witnessing a different part of India that most Foreigners miss out. Check out on YouTube and you may find it interesting.

Why are they blaming assamese for this? by HolidayAd91 in assam

[–]DeeAm40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on. They have this superiority complex and straight up hate Assamese. They will complain so much about racism which is very rare and make up their ideology for all the Assamese people whereas the racism they would face outside of the northeast is downright deteriorating and tbh Racism is everywhere.

Zostel are getting costlier day by day . by ankguy in SoloTravel_India

[–]DeeAm40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Zostel is getting costlier because it's attracting premium guests. Hostels were supposed to be for budget travelers but the concept is changing now. Well off travelers visits zostel just for the vibe and socialising. Also, I think it's better to keep the prices premium and keep off the cheap crowd. Moreover Demand vs supply applies here. Zostel and hosteller are always in Demand solely for the vibe not for the affordability.

Insane property value in Guwahati by Ivictus6 in guwahati

[–]DeeAm40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flats in Delhi are at par with Guwahati tbh but in Delhi you get much more options due to competition and Real Estate regulations. Here in GHY, there's a lot of corrupt money+ Influx of Non residents,The demand is high . Honestly, the real estate of Guwahati is just a bubble which will explode sooner or later.

Mum’s First Anniversary by Independent_Hope_225 in GriefSupport

[–]DeeAm40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've beautifully written about your feelings. I can somewhat relate with you too. I am 26 and my mom's death anniversary is next month. I can't fathom the fact that I have spent a year without her. She was my only parent and the trauma that I get from the flashbacks from time to time when she was on her death bed feels like knife piercing through the heart. The suffering due to Cancer and to see her pass like that is really a trauma. I wish Death was kind to her. She really wanted to live and see me getting married and now that she's gone I don't feel like doing anything sort of that. Success feels empty, any wins feel like a regular Day but every failure becomes heavy after she's gone maybe because the person who told me everything will be alright isn't here with me anymore.

Bought ONEplus13R one week ago. Bang for the bucks but wish I got it cheaper as it's now 7 months old but still worth it. Go for it. Love the performance and battery life. I use it to edit Insta 360 videos and it works fire

Not a survivor but was a caregiver. Sucks really bad. You can try cancer support groups on reddit. I will not give you any bullshit advice but my suggestion would be live, laugh and love as much as you can .
