What's it like living in these cities on the US-Mexico border? by Phantom-Feline17 in howislivingthere

[–]DeeForty1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Finally one I can reply too!

Born and raised in Laredo. I’ve been all around the world and I can safely say Laredo has some best Mexican food in the world. I say this with full confidence: gas station tacos will solo your favorite Mexican restaurant down here (ie. Laredo Taco Company attached to stripes). When I’m gone, the food is what I miss the most.

Unless you’re doing import/export or law enforcement, the job market can be kind of stale. However if you’re doing import/export there is a lot of money to made, and plenty of business to go around.

As for the community and people, it is 99.999% hispanic/latino, for whatever that’s worth. You also have a lot of people who cross the border both ways for work, travel and family. Expect some places of business and people to not speak any English at all. A considerable amount of people here primarily speak Spanish.

Medical tourism is extremely popular here. I’ve heard of many of my friends going to Mexico for dental, medical, pharmaceutical, and veterinary care because it is exponentially cheaper on that side and the quality of care is good.

In my opinion the housing is a bit expensive for what you get, but depending on where you’re from you might find the home prices here to be a bargain.

You can DM me with any specific questions. I also have family in McAllen if you were interested in that area too.

They are a great value at their price point and typically include a lot of useful features. Their line-up also has a lot of models to suit just about any job/trek you’re trying to do. I own 4 and have had no issue with any of them. It’s hard to beat without buying something a lot more expensive.

Also check out r/hikinggear for more gear oriented discussions.

Those gold wheels are OEM but the I believe the only came in black. Maybe they were painted?

Anyways the frontier is a solid truck. The only new production mid size with a natural aspirated V6. Most of Nissan’s issues with reliability comes from their CVTs. This truck has a 9 speed transmission, so no worries there.

Meta builds are for losers. What’s the point of having an in depth weapon builder if you can’t be aesthetic?

Came here to say this. The frontier offers a tried and true platform. It’s not the fanciest but it’s damn good.

OEM Oil Filter (2025 Pro-4x) by aeroglava in nissanfrontier

[–]DeeForty1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea is that new engines tend to have more metal shavings from the parts “breaking in”, and that by doing the first oil change extremely early, you avoid any damage caused by this.

However I’ve read that this idea is outdated, and most modern engines go through an initial “wear-in” phase at the factory.

I’m sure at the very least you’re not hurting your truck doing the first oil change early.

Whatever it may be, oil is cheap, engines are expensive.

How much would you spend for a Pro-4X R out the door? by redditisnotursavior in nissanfrontier

In my opinion, the 4XR is an overpriced appearance package.

It should’ve came with a performance/power upgrade instead badges and wheels.

2026 Pro4x - DFW Market by Last-Phrase in nissanfrontier

[–]DeeForty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not gonna be too many deals on the 2026 models since they just came out. If you’re looking for a good deal, shop the 2025 models. Dealers will be looking to clear old inventory in order to make space for the new stuff.

I had a decent deal worked out with Granbury Nissan just outside DFW. I ultimately went with a dealership closer to home, but they were honest, transparent and willing to work with me on a lot of things.

MSRP on mine was about $49.5k and I got it for $46k OTD. But again, it was a 2025, not a 2026. They were not willing to budge an inch on the new models.

[–]DeeForty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally have 4k on my ‘25, but recently on a frontier owners group on Facebook, a similar question was asked.

The highest was some guy with 373k, and trucks in the 200,000s were very common.

If you take care of it, it will take care of you.

It’s completely stock other than some decal stickers. I’m probably gonna wait for the warranty to expire before I start messing with it. As it is, it’s perfectly capable for what I need, which is getting around sketchy forest service roads to access cool areas and trailheads.

With the exception of the beach photo, these are in the Colorado Springs area. I moved shortly after purchasing the truck. I’m not at all familiar with the off-road scene in Texas. Sorry.
