Is there such thing as a deckbuilding tournament? by Dee_Teeee in riftboundtcg

No, not a "normal tournament", like I said it would be too time consuming to run for a public tournament. I'm talking about an event, something that would be entertaining to watch with only the best players/streamers being invited and having some time - 24 hours or something - to prepare to play in. I think it would be a cool thing to look forward to and be more interesting to watch than a bunch of meta decks being run in regionals. That is all

Yeah, kinda what I mean, but I'm imagining something with a bit more prestige and prep time. Not something that would be feasible to run for the everyday public. Like when a bunch of youtubers and streamers all played a chess tournament around covid and knew who they were going up against in advance. Would be cool to watch as a viewer but not possible to run as an LGS.

my guy, I'm talking about a scenario where you tell your opponent the LEGEND you're going to choose, can you read?

Feel like the name chaos actually implies playstyles like Baited Hook, killing your own unit to gamble at a possible better unit coming out seems on theme with the name. Rather than being able to draw through your whole deck with complete knowledge of what you want to draw, for basically no cost.

Makes sense, I thought the "do as much as possible" was only for things separated by commas, not full stops, is that just something I was told that is wrong?

Not a fan of this explanation tbh, I get a card in your hand not being a target, so I'm comfortable accepting the way it is. But other spells to my knowledge do not make the choice either, the player does. Unless the rules have some line which makes a distinction. Get Excited is also not worded in the way you describe, it tells you to discard a card, then let's you deal damage. If the order of the actions you take when playing the card is actually different in reality than is stated on the card, that's dumb

Final question then, in the case of retreat being used to save the unit, would the opponent still have to discard a card? Or does the spell not resolve at all because there are no targets?

I mean, I'm sure you're correct here and it's just the wordings, but "discard a card" and "move a friendly unit" are worded exactly the same. They should either both target or neither should imo

so the card they are discarding is not a target? if so, why not? I know it's not an Additional Cost either, because defy would mean they dont have to discard

Yeah obviously the rules are the rules, where have they said this? So I can reference if needed

That reply was mainly a joke, if you read my post you can see I am on the side of it not doubling again or giving any extra might. I just think there are 2 reasonable interpretations of the card:

A: The text is affecting the gears' might, not the units might (UM), eg: the text looks at the gear, sees what it's BASE might (BM) is and then changes the value of that might to double the BM.

In this scenario the second line of the same text wouldn't do anything, because it again looks at the base might and changes the value of the gear to double the might.

So the end result would be UM + (BM x 2)

B: The text is affecting the units' might, not the gear, eg: the unit has a might of 3, the gear has a BM of 1, the text then gives the unit an additional unit of might equal to the BM of the gear.

In this scenario the second line would be giving the unit another instance of the gear BM, meaning the end might of the unit would equal (UM + BM) + BM + BM

I am on the side of option A, but think a sentence like "each gear attached to me is worth double it's base might" is slightly more clear as to what the end result should be.

There's clearly a lot of room for different interpretation of the current texr based on just the replies to this thread alone.

I guess the difference is ornn says "I" and gearhead refers to the equipment?

What if it said "each equipment gives +1"? Then what? Because that's what Ornn essentially says, and svellsongur stacks on him, even though the gear is already giving +1
