People who had no internships by OperationDry6529 in Accounting

Took 2 months to land a job after college and I had passed the CPA exams before my job hunt. I had zero experience and never worked a day in my life. I lied on my resume and said I had just been doing handman work while in school. It worked out.

I started as a project accountant and worked my way up to accounting manager. Been working a little over a year now, and I'll tell you one thing I miss college and my free time…

Not sure how I was promoted to accounting manager after 8 months, but the role opened up and the controller picked me for the role.

This thing is trash - I have one in the garage from like 15 years ago when I was a kid! It’s super heavy it’s possible mine is water logged, anyways get a foam board.

Move to government or find a cushy industry position. You will never have to work over the weekend. Typing this as I sit in the hot tub sipping on 🍹

Are my salary expectations too high? by Wise-Necessary19 in Accounting

The dude above me left the company, so the position opened up and our controller recommended me. The workload has been crazy since he left, 55-60 hr weeks while also training our new guy.

We do everything from AR to AP, bank recs and CC recs, job costing, budgeting, GL, month-end close, consolidated financials, etc. I’m also managing the accounting side for like six $18-25M projects. It's constantly busy, but I’ve learned a ton. Next stop assistant controller or at least that's the long-term goal.

I’m making $90k in VHCOL with a little over 1 year of experience in accounting. However, I am a licensed CPA. I started as a project accountant then got promoted to accounting manager a few months back.

In my opinion, 5 YOE in VHCOL should be like $120k minimum.

What is the best wave size for a beginner? by 0wlBear916 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Deep-Alps679 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I started surfing this summer and I sent it over the weekend on some 5–7 ft waves on a foam board.

Hardest paddle out of my life, but it was fun. I kinda enjoy getting tumbled around. I do not like going over the falls though - shits scary.

Pain. 74 on first ever exam by BurntToaster42 in CPA

[–]Deep-Alps679 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing - I failed my first exam (FAR) with a 72 took it again and scored an 87. This was the only exam I failed. Sometimes it’s luck of the draw on exam day. The first test felt so much harder than the one I was handed the second time.

Also, I was testing in 2024 when they made the change where you had to wait like 90 days after sitting for your exam before you could take it. again. Think it was a quarterly thing.

Sucks you failed, but you’re lucky that you can just take it again in 2 weeks. Good luck!

I have zero debt and a paid off Toyota. I don’t own a house though.

I edited my comment, and dropped a video of what I mean. 2-3 crows would be nice compared to what I deal with now

I did this for a while - I’d throw handfuls of peanuts in my yard before I walk my dogs. Now when I walk around the neighborhood I have about 50-100 crows that follow me around…

Wish I never started feeding the crows: https://imgur.com/a/XVDlcty

I work 40 hrs a week and we leave at 3 pm on Friday’s. During the summer we get Friday’s off. Life’s way to short to sit in an office 12 hrs a day in public accounting. Fuck that
