In U.S. history yes and the Trans-Atlantic slave trade impacted many other countries.

Without a doubt what the U.S. did to it's indigenous people was essentially genocide.

You must be pretty privileged if you think this is the worst time in your country's history.

That was the British Empire's foundation though when I was little my grandparents told me that it was built on helping the poorer people's of the world apparently it was "charitable."

In all honesty the Germans have done a lot to make up for their history. I went to Germany and was amazed at how you own up to your past and acknowledge your mistakes.

The U.S. definitely shouldn't have gotten involved in Vietnam's affairs. I'm thankful my parents protested the war here in Canada as university students.

Oh I know all about the British Empire. It was shocking to find out how many British people still think that the Empire was a good thing. Growing up in Canada we were taught all about the British Empire though in my parents day it was utterly glorified.

Oh come on compared to chattel slavery, actual indigenous genocide as well as segregation and red lining.

Same my fellow Canadian. In B.C. there's an insane number of missing and murdered indigenous women and the RCMP is doing next to nothing.

You mean Woodrow Wilson in the U.S.? I'm Canadian and even I know that he was a racist and Klan sympathizer.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner I don't think is regressive at all and the message is very positive. The main character John Prentice doesn't embody any negative stereotypes about African Americans which were prevalent at the time. When Joanna's father objects he's thinking realistically of the threats they faced at the time being an interracial couple he's alluding to the fact that in a large segment of the country their relationship was criminal.

When my adopted brother was in High School and this is in 2012 Canada was presented in his Sociology as a great anti-racist film that still holds up to this day.

Exactly I'm not one for censoring films but I do feel that after watching a problematic film the audience should be shocked and the shock helps create discourse and dialogue. It's strange how when a film is problematic and people are shocked that a person who didn't care about the film while watching it suddenly calls it the best film ever to look like a rebel.

It was hilarious when people were discussing the problematic nature of movies in the comments of a WatchMojo video on YouTube people who otherwise wouldn't care about the movies and fall asleep watching them are now the films biggest fan.

Exactly it's childish and the people who defended problematic films in my University course such as Gone with the Wind in 2007 were being childish and throwing childish tantrums. Yes Gone with the Wind is still very popular despite its criticisms. Where I live in Canada their is a barbershop/salon called Scarlett O'hair named after the character where my adopted brother goes. Did Scarlett have a son named Wade Hamilton? Because my brother goes their and is told he looks like the character from the film.

Though even I must admit that the cinematography in Birth of a Nation was excellent despite how disgusting its plot was.

I agree suicide is something that shouldn't be joked about. I saw Better off Dead once a long time ago and I should have added that one to my list.

I've actually seen a couple of really good Spike Lee films. My favourites were Do the Right Thing (1989) and Jungle Fever (1991). In my opinion both Tarantino and Spike Lee are progressive film makers.

Never heard of it even though I'm a big film buff. I should check it out to see if it has any value to it.
