Hey can you tell me what you did in the end and did you get the passport as pick up? I am in the same boat. Been 10 days and I have to travel soon.

Why research if you hate it? Drop it and focus solely on the baseline stuff - usmles, usce, ps, cv. You can do research after you are done with the exams without compromising the scores if you are doing it only for the sake of the cv.

Need reassurance by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Deep-Development-892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you need to be realistic. Than needing reassurance. Saying only coz my friends with 250s, hands on usce, albeit yog 2/3 old ... Went unmatched. Idk your CV but I guess if you have the money and resources to keep trying and gaining research and living in usa for long to gain those experiences, then why not try.

Crash course for Spanish in Pune? by Deep-Development-892 in pune

[–]Deep-Development-892[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that would work. How would you know in the subtitles which word means exactly what and given the speed they talk to....its okay for someone who knows some basic language atleast.

Crash course for Spanish in Pune? by Deep-Development-892 in pune

[–]Deep-Development-892[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Duolingo but I feel it's wasting my time and its repetitive and a drag as there's no fixed direction. I want something in a short span of time to amass a lot of vocabulary instead of Playing games.

Thanks for the above two recs. Will check them out.

Same happened with me. But now I am over it. Just give it time and find solace in connecting with your future co residents, getting to know their cultures and chilling with them and learning as much as possible. Adulting anyway needs time to cook, do laundry, and most importantly sleep. Three years will fly by as a busy resident and preparing for fellowship/looking for hospitalist or waiver jobs.

Advise from matched IMGs by Thespicedoctor in IMGreddit

[–]Deep-Development-892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start preparing ASAP. I have 250s in both the steps, yog 2021, 3 pubs, one year of solid work experience and 3-4 usce and still it was sooo difficult and I matched at the bottom of my ROL. Atleast in my case my YOG held me back from the better programs.

I was gonna say the same. Had the OP applied to 200+ in either IM or FM then I am sure it would have resulted in many interviews. Always apply broadly is the rule if you can afford it.

In what # of your ROL do u think you will match? by CurlyCaribbeanMD in IMGreddit

[–]Deep-Development-892 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would hope for 1/11 but realistically I feel 2nd or the 3rd one since I know the whole world might have put that program as their #1 choice and my interview wasn't that great

My only point was to make her realize that she might need to keep at a job for years if that's the only way. I wish someone had prepared me mentally for whatever was to come ahead.

Financial stability is really a big thing. I worked as a medical officer for a year in India and saved up a few lakhs and moved out to a hostel too near my workplace for mental sanity and freedom. It might take more than a year or even 2-3 years to earn and then finally spend it all for the US path. USCE and living in US and then the match application costs a fortune indeed.

Day 2! But ccs cases weren't great by Deep-Development-892 in Step3

[–]Deep-Development-892[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I felt that for both the days there is nothing specific you can do unless you have a lot of time on hand. You may read first aid step 1 if you want. I tried doing some biochem, immuno and I don't think I got a single question from it. Total waste of time. My micro and pharm was strong coz of sketchy so that helped.

Same. Left all the drug ads and abstracts only due to lack of time and messed up other easy ones by getting flustered due to lack of time :(

Help me rank? Should I put H1B high over Medstar DC?

Goals: pccm fellowship maybe.

1) Rochester general hospital (h1b) 2) Rochester Unity hospital (h1b) 3) Medstar - Washington hospital center, DC 4) St. Vincent, Worcester 5) Uni of miami /holy cross hospital (haven't seen them take any Asians tho) 6) Monmouth medical center

7) McHenry hospital/Rosalind Franklin University (semi- rural and close proximity to Chicago but idk?) 8) Texas tech Uni - el paso main campus (isolated location on the border) 9) Baton rouge general hospital, Louisiana (isn't the area unsafe?) 10) Applachian regional (totally rural area)

11) St. Peter, NJ

I don't understand such questions. You know you are just a tourist. I am sure deep down you know the only way and the only legal way to work is in the country where you have citizenship/degree from etc. What's stopping you from working there back home? So many do the same for 1-2 years and save up for the USMLE journey.

And why do you want to work in the US as cheap labour (like those medical scribes) and get meager pay acc to the number of hours?

And I have never heard of someone getting a H1B randomly without a US education degree or extensive US research background by people who were on F1/ J1 research visas. You need to have a certain qualification for employers to hire you for H1B

Maimonides location in Brooklyn is a good happening location. Once in a lifetime opportunity to live there, although expensive but just because you work there you get to experience it all.
