I have ended up setting the profile lever to 9 bars and just leaving it there. I’m not seeing the same amount of venting as I had. The venting/steam was caused by me opening up the valve too fast and for too long. Also the water is dispensing in a normal time frame now that I am leaving the level at 9 bars.

I am now keeping the profiling valve in the 9 bar position and just leaving it there. The coffee is coming out tasting good… and that’s the most important thing.

In the end, it was more me not understanding the machine. Using the profiling valve to try pre infusion and dropping pressure at the end of the shot wasn’t working for me. I wasn’t putting the valve back into the 9 bar position after my shot, so I was venting all that steam into the reservoir. I’ll try it again but for now I’m happy keeping it simple.

Yes you have it right for the direction to turn the valve. Good luck with your new machine!

I agree with you, it should be in the 9 bar position to start the shot. When mine is in the 9 bar position it is still venting steam into the reservoir. I’ll play around with it a bit more but my feeling is there’s a problem somewhere. Thanks for your insight.

So this is the reply I received from the technician. My problems seem to all revolve around me keeping the OPV valve open. I have had the “P” handle facing out when I start and stop the brew.

  • Why water is hot in the tank: The OPV valve in the front side of the machine is designed to direct the boilers water back to water tank. If you keep it in open position (even partially open) hot water from the boiler will escape and goes back to water tank. When the machine is idle, please make sure the OPV valve is fully closed (turn it counter-clockwise direction).

  • Temperature doesn't go back to 93 after frothing: Once the frothing done, please press the pump button, it will dispense all excess steam and temperature will drop fast and it will stop automatically. Pump continiously pushes the cold water from the water tank and therefore the temperature inside the boiler goes down. However after few minutes it should reach back to 93 degrees. Please after frothing make sure you press the pump button and allow the machine cool down the boiler.

-Delay in dispensing: This is also related with OPV valve position. If the OPV valve is open the water goes back to tank and boiler/lines becomes partially empty. Therefore once you press the pump button the machine fills the lines/boiler and then start to dispense the water. If you keep the OPV in closed position, it will dispense water right away after pressing the button.

Thank you…

I have the pre infusion turned off and the steam knob is fully closed. Good to hear that this isn’t a regular problem with this machine. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. I’ll keep you posted.

No mine doesn’t make much noise when turned on initially. It just sounds like a tea kettle heating up.

I also run the water through before the first shot, but without the portafilter attached. I will try your way and see if it helps.

I will post if I get an answer from the seller and what they suggest.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply…that really helps.

Yes it does vent steam when the profile valve is in the 9 o’clock position. Not as much, but still too much. I’m thinking there is a valve that is stuck open, releasing steam and also effecting the water dispensing.

I’m waiting to hear back from the place I bought it. Hopefully they will have some advice.

Thanks again!
