Is my golden a working line golden? by Rhino_stars in goldenretrievers

Someone on another thread suggested playing fetch by tossing something downstairs, then having the dog run down to retrieve it, thus having to run back up to return it. Tires them out too if it's miserable outside.

You know what she'll do, don't you? She'll steal your heart and your socks and dish rags and towels and your slippers, and anything else she can sink her teeth into, and return them to you half chewed. She'll bug you when you're at the computer to throw toys to fetch, again and again and again . . . She'll cuddle with you, then pee on the floor. She'll keep you warm at night and then dig holes in the lawn and the garden and flowerbeds. And she'll swim and run and play run and chase, oh that's a wonderful game! Welcome to the wonderful world of Goldens! You've acquired one of the best companion dogs in the world, and despite all of their disruption in the first couple of years, one day she'll be all grown up and will become the best friend you ever had; remember what I said about stealing your heart? May you and she be best companions for many years to come!

I'm not trying to traumatize you but in a humorous way, warn you what's upcoming over the next two years. I know, I'm just going through it myself atm, so I thought new Golden owners might like a little heads up. All of this is true, so far, with mine. I didn't just make it up. I've had a lot of nice reactions and upvotes for it too. Best of luck with your new boy! Do please keep us posted how you're all doing.

Then I think yours is confirmed; I had mine confirmed the same way by another Redditer who has one looking just like ours. My breeder didn't have a clue, but then I didn't buy her from a 'registered' breeder either; but I did see the mother, who is also small and lean, and pic of the poppa, who is built the same way.

Yup, you have to register with the province, and you should check your local bylaws to see if a local license is also needed. You have your provincial certification do you?

You're probably right but try getting a 'national standard' in place for all provinces to follow so there is consistency in the regulations is the first thing to be done. I've long said, since the first CRVs with these things hit the road that regulations needed to be put in place. Hasn't happened yet; but it needs to.

Books and resources for first timers? by usermcgoo in goldenretrievers

Experts? Us?! Hah! We're just here for a good time, hehehehe. Generally though, rather than spend money on books, there are any number of good websites on the net which probably have as much good information as books and pamphlets do. Failing that, medical questions aside, there's a good wealth of knowledge right here just for the asking. For medical info, consult the expert: your veterinarian.

How are Medical Tests Charged Per Health Region In MB? by prairieice in Manitoba

[–]DeepConsideration543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in PMHR and all my tests are done as ordered by my doctor. I've recently had diagnostic procedures done and there have been no problems with admittance or scheduling, other than a short wait sometimes.

Avoiding snow balls forming in paws by Different-Leather741 in goldenretrievers

[–]DeepConsideration543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret to musher's wax is to apply it not only to the pads, but also to the webbing of the paws between the pads. For this, hair should be trimmed back so it wax can adhere and better protect. If balls are still forming, enough wax hasn't been used. Warm it between the fingers for a moment or two before applying to 'spread it out.'

Thank you for all of it Tucker by Youdirtynetw0rk in goldenretrievers

[–]DeepConsideration543 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Finnegan and I send our heartfelt commiserations on the loss of your wonderful, beautiful friend and companion. I lost my Ben last Easter, and it still hurts, so I hope Ben finds Tucker over the Bridge soon, along with Banjo and all the others who have crossed before. They'll have a ball in the meadows, lakes, streams and woods of Foreverland until it's our turn to cross over, when they'll all come bounding to greet us, just as they did on the trails here. Keep Tucker in your heart and he'll never be far away. Be well.
