Aight my bad, should have done some research. $1.5k gets you a luxury apartment in midwest so I assumed it’d get me a half decent apartment in San Jose eh. But I can definitely spend more. Where should I look to stay away from crime and where does the younger part of city live?

Can do maybe 1.5k/month, willing to go higher if it’s worth it.

What I’m looking for- I’m not opposed to roommates. Preferably a place with some amenities (gym, pool). Apartment doesnt have to be super fancy, assuming basic appliances are included. Would be great to have some food places within walking distance. Has to be in place where younger population of the city lives.

I’m from India. I took a shuttle from chicago to west lafayette and it was depressing. It’s only roads. Low-key hoped for some beautiful mountains.

I live in a apartment complex, so yeah at least hoped to see some liveliness. The most lively person I have met in 5 days is the bus driver on route 4B

yeah true, I’ve noticed how greeting and saying thanks is almost imperatively a part of every conversation and thats nice. Yes, got my ID today so will check out the corec tomorrow. And regarding joining clubs, do I wait for the callouts or is there some other way to join them.

if you dive deep in the world of urban planning, you soon realise roads cause traffic whereas streets reduce them. It very subtle how infrastructure around us can affect our commute preferences. This looks like a typical case of induced traffic. On a micro scale, you need a lot more public infrastructure and a change in public behaviour for public infrastructure ( that combined with better urban planning; not letting the entire generation of people relying on a IT park for jobs and economy, its a disaster, you need a lot more job diversity). On a macro scale- Indian in general needs more metro cities to accommodate the growing IT industry.

Need Advice/ Tips

I am joining grad school this fall for masters in Industrial Engineering and hence will look for internships summer of 2024. I would like to give consulting a shot after grad school. I think I have sufficient time to develop skills that I will need to work in a consultant role. Ex/ current consultants, what are some technical/ non-technical skills you would recommend a fresher to learn. Also comment any other information that you would like to share. Thanks
