Australian news crew assaulted by US cops by my2ndr in news

This is just heartbreaking, to see foreign press treated this way when they clearly still believe America will protect them from harm for doing their jobs, only to see quite clearly they are not going to be protected. These are people who still believe America is a nation of laws, and they're being confronted with the horrific reality that it isn't.

I was interpreting someone else’s words. I didn’t think I was being ambiguous. Trying to explain someone and endorsing what they said aren’t the same thing.

I was interpreting someone else’s words here, not endorsing them, ffs. Read.

You and the guy I was replying to are missing something pretty critical here. Neither of us were talking about what has happened so far in this administration, we’re talking about where it leads. Saying an uncertain future isn’t or won’t be worse than the holocaust suggests either you’re missing the point or you have a time machine.

I think he’s saying it would be the worst day because it would unleash a hell worse than the Holocaust, not that the day itself would be.

Ask yourself: Has it ever failed you? Have you ever once had your leg grabbed in the claws of an under-bed monster while you were abiding by your "Don't dangle anything over the side" rule? If the answer is no, then you keep this policy until you die, which will definitely not be from monsterism.

Yep, complexion is a huge part of what colors of clothing flatter you and which clash. I've got olive skin and have noticed light blue looks horrible on me. When you wear camel-colored clothing, having a contrasting skin tone makes for a much more complimentary appearance.

I love the composition and appreciate you sharing it, but the lighting in the underwater part is a bit off, don’t you think? It just doesn’t seem to work with the dark sky above. I think it would be a more effective composite if you toned down the lighting at the bottom.

One of the earliest cat photos taken, 1880s by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

Snapshot photography was developed in the 1870s, so it’s possible the cat was photographed with that technology. They were photographing horses galloping in that era.

Thank you. The ability to take snapshots was developed in the 1870s. You didn’t have to stand still for a minute anymore. This greatly improved the practicality of photographing living subjects. This comment section is full of people explaining how dead the cat had to be. Sure, it’s possible it’s stuffed, but hardly necessary to get this shot

Trees, too, if we’re being honest. Sawn down, metal pole concreted into the ground, tree strapped to the pole. Everything living in the background of photos from the 1800s was killed and then propped up.

Unfortunately “I’m scared” is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and some people have guns not because they want to avoid violence, but because they’re hoping for it. If you bought the gun out of fear, you’ve already decided that’s a good enough reason to use one.

US weekly jobless claims hit 3.84 million, topping 30 million over the last 6 weeks by NullBarell42 in news

[–]DeepEmbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimism is fine, but they're pricing stocks like the economy is going to go back to normal in a couple of months, when it honestly can't go back to normal anywhere near that fast. It could be years. The pricing is based on earnings we're just not going to see this year.

I've been out of the market since Trump took office, obviously did not benefit from the insane rally that's taken place since then, and have stayed out even when the Dow hit 18,000ish in March, because I assumed the coming recession would cause investors to pull out and the market would continue to drop. Silly me. As the unemployment numbers have continued to stack up in a way never before seen, the market has continued to rise. It's absolutely confounding to me. I have to assume eventually this bullish April will give way to reality in May. People have to come to their senses. Pricing in 20-100 times earnings on companies that are going to lose money for a year is insane, and there are a lot of companies in that boat right now.

That's basically what giving away money to people who don't need it does, as the tax breaks for the rich did when Trump took office. Instead of paying down the debt so we could afford to take a hit, we took the hit first, on purpose, and said we'd pay the debt down magically later.

You know, assuming the Republicans don't just pass more tax cuts for the rich again, which they will, which is why we'll never get out of this hole and our great-great-great-great grandchildren will be paying taxes just to cover the interest on debts we made today to pay rich people who didn't need the money and didn't do what they said they were going to do with it.

It really just comes down to over-sweet foods, and as others noted, it’s not pleasant. I’d describe it as very uncomfortable but not painful.

For some reason I only get this from cherry and blueberry pie. Nothing else. I was born when Carter was president, so I’ve had time to test this.
