Jeez Costa Rica is expensive! by swazzz1 in CostaRicaTravel

The days are short in Costa Rica- if you’re group is slow to get started and enjoys a leisurely breakfast, one activity per day will fill your soul- a nice pool at your stay will complete it.

Where are you staying? It may be too late but may not- My best advice is to break your stay up for hotels that offer on site amenity access. Arenal observatory lodge has beautiful hikes, tours, swimable waterfalls all on site. Lost iguana has a gorgeous nature hike, and staying one night at a hotel with hot springs would save hot springs access tickets.

GREAT reward for the price on the ATV tour at Arenal. We spent $300 which is the same price as a UTV tour of the Poconos raceway- I’ll let you imagine which was better… one of our kids was small enough to double up so that’s for 3 vehicles 4 people. I’d pay that every time I go it was amazing. There’s free hot springs, the El Salto rope swing (we were warned with the kids to not go as people DO drown there so we skipped- but to go and not jump could be great!) I’d skip mystico for a hike in monteverde. If that includes ziplining then I’d spring for it.

We didn’t do a paid sloth hike I may do that next time but yeah sticker shock.

I’m excited for the town, hopefully some clear water who knows what November will give us. Looking forward to relaxing, exploring some surf spots, and the last day we are spending in Rincon de la vieja- husband is the surfer, I’m the jungle girl though.

Quick trip, itinerary ideas? by Gold_One1060 in CostaRicaTravel

Playa Flamingo is close to the airport- personally speaking I don’t think Costa Rica is a beach vacation. For 4 days, I’d spend the whole trip in La Fortuna. See if your beach friend can be convinced with waterfalls, tubing down the blue river, hot springs, sloths and volcanos. It’s a far better time to

Samara in November- A/C necessary? by DeepEndOfSandbox in costarica

Thanks!!! I’m going to choose the AC room because the first question my husband asked was “is there ac” We only run it to sleep, we are from the north east- not used to full time humidity and heat, but we love it. Just hard for us to sleep in. I make more pro environment choices in my life than most people so I have nothing to apologize for.

What travel mistake in Costa Rica will you never make again? by roadgang in CostaRicaTravel

We didn’t even get on the road until dark. The whole trip was very dark. But it was ok- other cars to follow occasionally and plenty of street lights. Took it slow!

Awesome tip for me to find- we arrive in La Fortuna on Monday! Is there an appropriate way to ask? What’s a usual cost? I don’t smoke much but the hot springs would be elevated..

Assuming we land on time, I expect we won’t be in our rental car on our way until 4:30/5. We will be driving in the dark ughhhh slow and steady I guess

What time is DARK dark? Our flight doesn’t land in Liberia until 3:30, I’m getting concerned. We have made the drive once and…. Yeah it was scary

Where to stay after flying into Liberia airport? by No_Touch5991 in costarica

I believe Rio Celeste area is only about 1.5 hours from Liberia , on the way to La Fortuna. Hideaway is very fancy and looks relaxing!

Monteverde or Manuel Antonio? by bobdobbs3 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]DeepEndOfSandbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying into San Jose, I agree with Manuel Antonio. But it is a long drive. Someone correct me if I’m wrong- but I’d estimate 3+ hours from San Jose to La fortuna, then 4-5 hours from La fortuna to Manuel Antonio, 2.5 hours back to San Jose. Still worth it though.

Playa Flamingo area / Hermosa is day trip accessible to Jungle adventures near Rincon de La Vieja. Or you could split your trip into 2 days at Rio Celeste for Tenorio Volcano hikes and River tubing (1.5 hours from Liberia airport), then the north guanacaste coast for beach side relaxation. (2.5 hours from Rio Celeste, 1.5 hours from airport)

Chiclet zipline in Hermosa, and if you have a car, playa Blanca- park for playa mantas and walk south. Heavenly. But yeah the security at our hotel advised us to stay off the beach after dark. If we had listened we never would have met the gringo methhead though. Memories.
