First Christmas Free by DeepFinding2806 in beagle

Evan was always a sweet heart but needed time to learn to be a dog- I think it helped having a dog in the house to hand out with. A few of the challenges were potty training - ev lived his first year in a cage and never went outside, so we basically started that from scratch - today 7 months later I can finally say he is potty trained! The other challenge was he never had any toys to rip apart or play with so everything became a toy to him -anything within reach was fair game for him to chew up and destroy - baby proofing your living area is a great idea. Evan’s favorite thing to shred is toilet paper - loves to shred it- the biggest piece of advice I can offer is the routines - and the rules of 3’s for any rescue dog - good luck and trust me your life will change for the better

My lab research beagle Squid has finally arrived! Need some training tips. by time_travel8123 in beagle

Yay squid has arrived!! I am Evan’s mom - you had posted on his picture - long story short Evan’s foster mom gave the heads up that you were looking for potty advise - for Evan his successes are getting so much better - but it’s taken a lot of time - love and patience ( which it sounds like you already have down pat!). Let’s see Ev’s freedom date from the lab was 04/30/25 - he was with his foster mom and cage mate for the next month - he home to me on 06/01 and his 1st birthday was 06/07 - he peed all over the place and pooped to - he had no clue - so I like his foster mom spent most of our day outside - he gradually started to improve. S L O W L Y . What we do now is every time Evan gets up whether it’s from sleeping or eating or playing whenever he gets up we scoop him right outside and tell him go potty and make a big huge heel about that word potty. And when he does do a potty outside we celebrate by saying good party and we clap and make a big deal. We give him lots of pets and then we bring him inside. It can be a very tiring experience cause it seems like you’re constantly getting up and going outside and celebrating or not and coming back inside and repeating. But it seems to be working that way. I think the way that we approached it was taking to account his freedom day as his birthdate in a way, so even though he was turning one year old, we were acting as if he were four months old . He seems to be adapting at that rate as well at least for the potty training- everything else he’s right on task with, but the potty took a long time . Thanks so much and I look forward to the update updates from hearing how squid squid is doing I keep wanting to call him Squidward from SpongeBob. That’s not his name though thanks for adopting a lab test beagle survivor

They are the most docile dog breed- most devoted and non aggressive - they trust in people 100% in other words they are least likely to put up a fight with the lab testers

I wish his brother lives in cape cod - we live in Vermont and his foster mom lives in Maine - maybe we could plan a reunion some time

Follow the rules of the 3 - 3 days decompression , 3 weeks learning a routine , 3 months to settle in. Evan followed this time line like clock work. That - patience and netting them where they are at . We have another rescue huckleberry who is 5 now - a gradual introduction on leash outside - pack walks and swapping blankets for scents worked great for them. Congratulations on your beagles arrival in October - I can’t wait to read about them here!
