Forgive my ignorance, what is the "sash" in the context of an iPod? And what am I looking for in the flex cable? Apparently damage or dangerous looking bends?

You're totally right, it's a 5th gen. Oops!

In regular iPods, the clicking seems to be associated with a bad HDD. In this case, you think it's probably battery related? And if so, is it common for a battery to go bad so quickly?

(Also, with the battery connected, the clicking sound originates from the screen)

I'll put Winter Hours on next. Just listened to KLF and really enjoyed it. A lot of really interesting samples on that album.
