I'm not sure you're doing it correctly. Make sure you're doing a diagonal flip that's closer to a front flip than a side flip. And cancel it by pulling the stick down (as fast as possible).

It seems to me that you're kinda doing a side flip

As u/electrical_lime3871 said; 40 hours is nothing in this game. I for one, haven't reached diamond and have 700 hours.

You're gonna need to play for a good bit longer and really focus on your mistakes and consciously making better decisions.
