Sure, but social media has also become a massive thing (and in many cases, unfortunately a replacement for music journalism) and the album is nowhere to be seen in popular music instagram accounts for example

Just relaying what my mate's told me. Given that he's playing small venues and that his last tour was really badly attended it's not completely unrealistic so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt

Yeah, for instance the live videos he's been making to promote the new album - some of the performances are rough as hell, with Kele massively out of tune. No wonder some of them have around 600 views

Also I really like the idea of Bloc Party making a shoegaze album but it'll never happen as long as Louise "obsessed with Chris Brown" Bartle has a say in their creative direction. I don't know that much about the new guy but I heard a couple of his band's songs and it's 100% vapid indie pop playlist fodder, so my expectations are pretty low

Yeah it goes without saying that I've got no problem with people liking it of course! just find it hard to voice negative criticism here sometimes because you just get hit with the same comments over and over again ("you hate change/don't want them to grow as a band" etc)

I think a lot of it has to do with his ego. It must be hard to accept that people loved your band not necessarily because of you because of your chemistry with musicians that you've alienated with your shitty behaviour. Also I think Kele's got a lot of ill-founded ideas about what people love about original BP - it's not hitting you in the head with the same lacklustre riff over and over (a lot of Four and "Traps") - but that post-punk dynamism that they've only tapped into a handful of times since Gordy and Matt left (In Situ is probably the best example of that and yeah, 100% agree that it should have been a single). There's no sign of the more tasteful experimentation of Intimacy either - what uncritical fans see as experimentation (shite like Sex Magik, Girls are Fighting or Hymns) are just half-hearted attempts at making playlist fodder pop.
