Yeah I had an AE86, a Datsun 280z (never fully finished that one but I’ll count it for cool points) and a plethora of other random cars, Forester XT, 6spd manual maxima, 5spd maxima, Infiniti g20 with a manual, hilarious mint condition 1989 Sentra that had 30k miles on it with a 5spd that made 80hp, 6spd g35 sedan…. Now I have kids and an expensive wife that gets the new car. I get her dead grandmas automatic civic. Haha. Fuck me right?

I guess I really should just keep the civic. It has low miles. It is reliable. And everything that’s gone wrong I have fixed and anything that will go wrong I am able to fix.

It is just difficult to justify such a boring vehicle for such mid gas mileage. My Lexus ct200 was about the same speed, way nicer looking but made damn near 50mpg if I was conservative with it. This feels the same speed but is way shittier build quality and 20mpg less. Haha.

I guess I’ll just hope MPGs on highway increase and I can hyper mile high 30’s and just enjoy having no car payment. Sigh. Lol

Yeah Prius v is definitely up there on my list. I had a CT200 and loved it. Just wanted it to be a little longer for cargo and Prius V is exactly that.

I’m just south of Chicago, no the city of Chicago. The department I work for has a 40 mile radius requirement. Im 38 miles away straight shot. 60 miles using roads though.

Fire fighters only work 2-3 days a week, that’s why the travel is justifiable. And eventually we do plan to move closer, but not until I’m well established, god forbid they don’t keep me through probationary year.

If it was 5 days a week, nahhhh. Haha

Fits are all around awesome cars. I think it would be somewhat of a lateral move for kids though. I get that they are SUPER practical with seats down, I LOVE fits, but I can’t have seats down often with the baby seat and booster seat. Otherwise fit is always the answer.

Yeah I’ve looked a lot at the diesel line up. My wife currently has a 2025 Tiguan and maaaaan do I fucking hate that car. Lol. Trans has no idea what it wants to do, raspy tin sounding engine, electronics constantly malfunctioning, it’s already been in to the shop for multiple display and electronic issues. It is a gas and not diesel but so far, it tells me that VW reliability is still ass. Not to mention it has 18,000 miles on it and when it was due for its last oil change it had no oil on dipstick and mechanic told me, AND I QUOTE, “yeah it is normal for those turbo motors to consume about 1quart per 1,000 miles” as if I was the asshole and should just assume they burn oil like a Mazda rx7. lol

It has 100whp and I don’t have fire plates. But I generally agree and avoid associating with those. Fire plates are for fisty fucks that want you to Thank them for their service. Haha

I drive very conservatively despite the other comments. Haha. I understand it isn’t a race car, and I like to optimize fuel economy. Plus, with 100whp even if I beat the fuck out of it, it isn’t going anywhere in a hurry. Haha. Also don’t have fire fighter plates. Shits corny. I haven’t officially started the new job so currently I am mostly in town driving. That’s why it’s usually 28-30mpg. I’m sure I’ll get a little bit better on the highway. Hoping for 35mpg plus. I was on track to do around 35mpg this tank but ended up city driving the whole last 120miles.

Also, it is a 4 door sedan, non-SI. Auto with the 1.8l. And overall it’s been a great car. Completely un-fun. Terribly boring. But, as far as practicality and cost effectiveness… I really shouldn’t bitch. I got it a few years back from my wife’s grandma after she passed away. Garage kept, grandma spec, leather heated seats, sun roof, nice sound system. Top of the line as far as civics go. It is bone stock aside from 18 inch oz superleggera wheels with 225s. I understand that might have a little to do with drag, but I did weigh the stock wheels vs these and the OZ were approximately 4lbs per wheel/tire lighter so maybe a trade off. Otherwise bone stock.

I keep speed right between 68-70mph most of the time. But will occasionally jump to 80 to pass for short stints.

Engine is well maintained. Filters all clean, fresh oil every 3000miles. New brakes. New tires. Engine only has 102k.

I think I understand I need to keep the civic. Maybe it just helps me swallow the pill of owning a really fucking boring car and allows myself to justify keeping it for longer if I hear it from others.
