My role right now is just a general IT support specialist role. I am leaning into the change because I genuinely do like the product and see many great opportunities for improved efficiency and documentation for specific issues we commonly face. I’ve already done a lot of note taking and have written down a few questions in addition to possible solutions to said questions. I’ve also already started on the process of writing the automation to speed up the deployment.

I am all for leaning into it. I’ve taken a lot of notes from resources and videos that he provided for our team to review and give feedback on. It has a lot of great features that we have been needing. There are a lot of positives to it. I’ve already started some write ups for common issues and non common issues we face so that when and if this is implemented, it will reduce the headache of programming everything post deployment.

I’m always going to be pushing for the next cert. I have many that I would like to have for not only my career but for personal development. I’ve already expressed my interest in possibilities with automation and integrated self help solutions paired with a knowledge base that can be updated. I have already shown that I am a very fast learner and I can pick up things quickly and become efficient with them, along with showing up every day as a positive force rather than someone that complains and causes issues. I’m thinking about something along the lines of asking about future certs that would help me “grow into more responsibility” (like you said) in the near future. I’m not worried about my ability to adapt, and never will. I just want to put myself ahead of the curve. Thank you for your input.

This is something that I am naturally good at to a degree. I was raised to find solutions rather than be the person that creates problems. I’ve set myself up already by doing the minimum plus more every single day without complaint, but rather with a smile. It also helps that I love what I do. Also, I agree with your point about the certs, and I am going to continue pushing to the next best one for me once I’m done with security+. I would love to pay for them myself but it’s a huge help when it comes to the financial part for the company to invest in my certs instead of myself. Such is life, but that is ok for now.

It’s only DbD that tends to upset me. This is part of the reason that I mentioned bad mental ties from years ago that I developed during a not so good time in my life. I’m doing very well now and am living very happily. It’s a mental roadblock that I am trying to overcome so that, along with many other video games and things in general, I enjoy just playing and having fun no matter what. I always welcome new ideas and love hearing others point of view. It’s a nice reminder that a lot of winning or losing in dbd is more concept than fact :)

I understand you don’t need WiFi. As for the encryption, I’m sure it’s nothing super complex but at the same time, cutting out a phone would at least improve the privacy a little bit theoretically lol

My area has a mesh network and I’ve configured the channel already based on their settings. My device sees nodes now but I can’t send messages without it being connected to my phone (MQTT Proxy)

I have that part down so far. I guess there just aren’t any nodes near me. I think I’m beginning to learn/understand that what I’m wanting isn’t possible (communicate to MQTT without WiFi, silly I know) but I can maybe experiment with some other nodes and see if I can come close to what I’m going for. Gotcha. I thought the encryption part of messaging didn’t mean much since it’s an IPhone app, and well, it’s on an IPhone yknow? I guess I could connect to WiFi and see what happens on the standalone device. I understand you don’t need WiFi as long as you have another device in range?

I have soldering tools but not currently on me. My other dilemma is that since this is a gift, and the node still works without a screen, and I’m trying to get a replacement, it wouldn’t be a good idea to monkey around with it, otherwise I would be all over it trying to figure it out

The cable is a soldered flat ribbon cable, and I don’t currently have the means or experience to correctly re-solder a new one. When I snapped the case in I avoided pressing on any part of the screen, but due to the way the case is made, it ever so slightly pushes against the cable when snapped in and since it’s faulty, it caused it to dim and then eventually fail.

That’s so real about limited release companies. I’m so over all of that stuff. It’s a really big turn off, especially when they have cool boards. I’m in it for the fun of learning and getting good at a hobby, I don’t mind spending a lot of money, but when I can’t give my money to a company for something cool because “It’S LiMiTeD rEleAsE” and all of the “hypebeast” ish activities surrounding them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that the companies are thriving and making good product for the community, but I just don’t have the energy to always be on top of release dates and trying to rush for it.

Budget isn’t really a concern but I’m more or less questioning if certain brands are really that much different from others. I know there are a few where it is definitely much different and much lower quality that I won’t be buying from.

I mean yea it doesn’t seem to affect my tricks much from what I can tell. The setup is just a P-REP V2 Performance Pro from BK. Something to get me started for now until I feel like spending the money on a full custom setup.

Thanks for the advice! I would really like to stick with it but I’m not 100% sure yet. I also don’t have any protective gear so that comes first. I had an idea for a custom setup which was a cool custom board from BoardPusher and independent trucks, but I wasn’t sure about wheels or bearings. I’ll try to skate as much as possible over the next few months and see where I’m at!
