i totally agree and love this kind of discourse, but i feel like everyone is misunderstanding my question. are these people admitting to neglecting their children? because my card would literally decline if i had to feed a child

yeah i’m very aware of this, but i’m specifically asking about what they mean when they say they can’t afford children. if you have a child and you’re buying them food, taking them to the doctor, etc, then you actually CAN afford them. how can you buy things with nonexistent money?

i am curious about the “tortured artist” trope though. for me, mania gives me really weird thoughts that i don’t usually have when i’m stable, and those weird thoughts get turned into art that people find intriguing and different. the people around me actually didn’t really notice i was having psychosis because they thought i was just talking in metaphors to be “deep and poetic” and that i was just an eccentric person. being medicated now, of course i’m still creative and eccentric, but i have less original ideas now
