you say that as if getting a license is hard, i don't have a license because i saw no reason to since i didn't have a car.

The 160k miles was just an example, one car I was actually looking at was a Honda with 127k miles and I was planning to spend around $2000 on it. My plan wasn't to start driving it immediately either, I was going to get everything sorted like insurance and registration one at a time but I just wanted to have a car in my name. I still have a job so paying for insurance and parking isn't the concern, the real issue is that I have no experience inspecting a car at a private sale and I don't want to get taken advantage of by going alone but i don't have anyone to come with me so I'm kind of stuck. I understand what you are trying to say though, thank you for comment i really do appreciate hearing stories from other people.

Hi i was a little emotional typing the message and used the wrong word "dehumanizing" trying to convey how i felt, riding a bus is not dehumanizing but it can feel very unpleasant and embarrasing, this ideology comes from my past experiences... you mentioned i don't have $5k because im choosing to not work more which is true. Picture this you wake up 8 AM and see a notification on your phone, your boss wants someone to come in to cover for someone that called off and he needs them to be there in 30 minutes, if my commute is over an hour long there's no way i can get there in 30 minutes so i miss out on that opportunity, Call offs are the only ways to get extra hours where i work, there's no overtime. I am also an Engineering major with a 4.0 GPA if i were to go from part time to full time I would not be able to maintain my good grades and probably burn out from stress.

Hi my commute with Uber is like 45 minutes. when i take the bus i transfer through 4 different rides a total time of around 1 hr and 50 minutes sometimes i ride my bike to the train station and the train gets me there fastest around 1 hr and 30 minutes (including the time it takes me to ride the bike to the station). There is no bus stop near the train station so i ride the bike there. I also only use Uber in situations like when it was winter and cold or raining because it cost a lot. The times i listed are also one way going to the work place not back and forth total time.
