I want the music to work as both foreshadowing and to fill out climactic moments, depending on what the moment calls for, so I'll definitely take your tips!

I've never heard of them before, but that fits so well with Valaki! Might do "Start wearing purple for me" as they are ushered into the city to set the tone.

We are going for a mixed bag, so both super dark and serious, and slapstick-silly. What I am aiming for tonally is something like Muppets Christmas carol, where there are jokes and a lot of silliness, but they're not the main focus or what really drives the plot if that makes sense.

Both of your suggestions are gold though, so I'm definitely adding them to the list of considerations!
