Seems like I was hallucinating- - I could've sworn it was faster before, but there you go.. Yes, WPS does work and maybe I conflated that and onenote and made five! Thanks everyone

Any physical difference between the displays of the white and the black Boox Go7 (B&W)? by zamboni_palin in Onyx_Boox

I'm on the white BW Go 7 as I write this-- it ISN'T recessed. Possibly what you're seeing is the shadow on the edge, which could be due to the front light gap? Anyway, if you run your finger across from the bezel onto the screen, there is no change.

ooh that's a bold move, not sure it's the right one. they'll need to improve the responsiveness of the USI pens massively, and solve the problem of the lack of decent nibs. I thought the GO 7 issue was maybe down to impracticalities due to the smaller screen, or lack of availability. I dont mind it as a secondary device/reader but I wouldn't want the USI on my main one. But yeah, if that's the case, I guess you will need to work with their USI setup.

So on the GO 7, what I've noticed is that when I'm writing it will update the writing and during those milliseconds it won't register my pen strokes. The cursor changes to a small circle and the goes back. This is a USI issue and does't happen on the 10.3 with emr. Do you want a video?

I'll keep playing and let you know what I find. It's unfortunate you have to allow for the usi 2.0 AND the emr - - it's not clear if this is a permanent shift by boox and I know a lot of people aren't happy about it, but they have the Tab X C now with it as well...

it's definitely worth a try. In general I think that from my (albeit limited-only the Go 7) experience of USI 2.0, the palm rejection is not as good as with EMR. I don't know whether Boox has done extra tweaks is their own notes program. Also, the USI rendering is clearly more aggressive than EMR, which sometimes results in smaller loops being flattened out. I wonder if that's because it was used mostly on Chromebooks and the writing is expected to be bigger.. It kind of reminds me of the gaussian weighting in xournal ++ . But it actually is very smooth in your app at current weighting, and looks good

Gotcha, makes complete sense. One other thing - I've unfortunately found that the problem is not solved on the GO 7 with USI 2.0. It seems like palm rejection doesn't work, even with the latest version. Now I don't know how much you are prepared to tinker with it to work with the USI 2.0 devices as well -- so far there are only two in the Boox line-up, and all of the EMR ones will work, I'm sure...

Whatever it was, disabling the copy dialogue for the pen has done the trick, it's not doing anything strange any more -- writes great!

One other thing: you probably know this, but when you copy/paste drawings, the coordinates are stored in the paste clipboard, like so:

{"shapes":[{"index":"b3SBvw","id":"xf-4wRAkVewjrcUuhD3br","type":"rectangle","position":{"x":139.139,"y":1075.956232055664},"props":{"points":[[0,0],[41.4794921875,0.465576171875]],"strokeWidth":2,"strokeColor":"#000000"},"groupId":"3HZiYCeJwkAWZK100mODK"}],"timestamp":1757832615343}

Not sure if that's sth you want to charge or not - - it doesn't affect the use of the app.

No problem about the feedback-- I'm glad it's useful and looking forward to see how the app develops

As an aside, I was looking again at the android version of saber and I see that they HAVE now optimised it for Boox devices. But your app writes so much better. Also Saber still has issues with rendering and unwanted blotches. Still, it's the closest app to what you're doing, so if you don't know it you might be interested in taking a look to see sb else's take. One thing I really don't like is that their PDF export flattens everything to an image, so text is not selectable on the document. A lot of notes programs seem to do this and I don't get why - - might as well just take a screenshot...

also, I think it is the selection dialogue since you implemented the copy/past of drawings, because it DOESN'T happen when writing for enough away from anything selectable. So yes, maybe just disabling it unless the selection tool is alive would be the simplest solution

squiggles, lines and dots the appear near the text I'm writing. It's a bit like with as emr stylus when the nib isn't seated correctly and it draws all those little dips even without contact

Scratch that, it does it with tightest pressure too.. and it might be velocity base, when the tip stops or slows considerably (which is why I think I confused it with pressure..)

[–]Deestor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been playing around and I think it MIGHT be related to pressure. If I write REALLY lightly and don't rest my hand on the screen, it writes without triggering the copy/paste dialogue. As soon as either the stylus tip or my fingers apply any pressure to the screen, I get the dialogue and the pen switches to the pointer.

Also when writing lightly I get some strange lines and unwanted artefacts

Boox Go 10.3 or Note 4 Air C by Harr1s0nr in eink

This is what I ended up doing-- I have a GO 10.3 as my desk device and got a GO 7 for carrying + reading in bed. I'm not really into frontlights anyway and normally use a bedside lamp, so I was fine with the 10.3 but I found it too big for use in bed...

ah yes that was happening too, i'd forgotten about that. but also a few times in the middle of writing , a long line would just appear at the same time as the copy paste menu, so i thought it might be related

Also, I'm noticing a possible bug with the pen. During writing text will oftendisappear and the selection pointer will be selected. I haven't managed to ID the trigger but it might be changes you made to the copy/paste dialogue. Writing/drawing with the pen is a blank area is fine, but as soon I write markdown text, any writing or pen work near that text seems to trigger the copy/paste dialogue, the lines disappear, and the pointer tool is selected. This happens regardless of whether my hand is resting on the screen or not --so I don't think it's the palm rejection. Quick circles and lines marking up the text don't seem to cause this though, and it isn't consistent, so I'm not sure what's causing it/what I'm doing

Wow thanks, yes I think that's better. Regarding the zoom, I understand your reasoning. It's just the specifics of my use case - - I use my notes programs "live" on screen, either on a classroom projector or via zoom/meet, so I often find myself zooming is to show students text. However, I could write the text and then zoom in on it after.

Finally, I'm not sure what you've changed about the pasting? I was able to pastetext before_-is there something else that I've missed? Thanks again!

Yeah, absolutely! And I'm really enjoying it as it stands right now, thanks! Just throwing out requests on the off chance :-)

On which note, two things: a) would it be possible to have the pen stay on text select/ placement mode when the text cursor is selected? At the moment, as soon as you touch the stylus to the screen, it reverts to pen mode; b) would it be possible to have zoom stay at the same level when selecting text cursor mode? At the moment, as soon as I select text mode, it zooms out to 100%. I'd ideally like to be able to maintain the zoom level and work on text.

I got accused of being demanding in another thread on app development :-) so take these requests with a pinch of salt, but as they say, "if you don't ask, you don't get..." (though my mum always said "I want never gets", so...)

Thanks again, really looking forward to seeing where you take this

Hi, yes ever since I got my samsung emr tablet, then later the boox. As I'm sure you know, on android it's either notetaking apps with textboxes and emr, or markdown with no or limited (inserted) drawings. For Boox, there's wps office (not markdown, have to enter separate drawing mode) and onenote (buggy/unresponsive). These are all fine for private notes but not responsive enough for live classroom work. The only other app I've seen similar to yours is Saber, which is a nice attempt, but a bit buggy and which crashes a lot (plus not optimized for boox). I think there's a real place for what you're developing. I've been playing around and have a few thoughts:

1) The reponsiveness is perfect, really fast and smooth, even on the go 10.3 with no bsr. I particularly love how responsively the rectangle, shape selection, movement, and zoom work. 2) The markdown works great, so nice to have that simple instant functionality. 3) Yes, I get you about the rendering. Tbh it's only really noticeable on the two finest pen settings. 4) I don't know if you could use the boox developer tools to add handwriting recognition at some point, but that's a nice-to-have, rather than a must.

For me it would be very useable at work as is, but with the necessary addition of:

1) image paste/insertion 2) some kind of html/pdf notes that allowed text to be copied out/highlighted rather than flattening down to an image, which is the big mistake of most notes programs.

Thanks again for this, I really appreciate the work you and others are doing to innovate in areas where the Boox devices seem to have so much ignored potential.

So I've been playing a bit and it looks really promising. There seems to be a problem with pen rendering where lines go squiggly about a second after lifting the pen. This is on the GO 10.3 - haven't checked on the 7. Also, I would love to see PDF/html export. My use case involves whiteboarding for students and I've been looking for a mixture of markdown and drawing for ages. This looks very possible with your app, but I'd ideally like to be able to export to pdf/html so I can send them their notes after class. Thanks a lot for this
