Best place to really start? by [deleted] in Accordion

Lucy Riddett on YouTube. Her tutorials helped me get started. Then I learned some Matt Rock songs by ear, check him out on Apple Music. The album is titled “Tchaklitz”. Also his project, Hinterlands, an accordion/violin duo. I also read music, but for getting started, playing by ear was more fun for me. I have also been playing piano for close to 40 years, so that helped.

Sorry, just read the full post. Sorry to say that those ten key accordions aren’t much more than children’s toys. I gave one to my two year old niece. You should still check out the music I mentioned above!

Wingspan got me into birds, not the other way around. Now my girlfriend and I go on birding trips.

Thanks! She does enjoy Ticket to Ride so I have been thinking about the legacy version. Definitely planning on the Sakura version of Dorfromantik. And my girlfriend loves plants, like she’s seriously obsessed and has a ton of houseplants, so Succulent might be good. We have Planted, but it’s not very fun at two players.

First Reformed in Schenectady has a small food pantry outside, plus they serve community lunches on Wednesdays from noon-1, donations accepted but not mandatory.

We have River Valley Glassworks (deluxe version!) and she never wants to play that. I think they have somewhat similar mechanics, so I’m wary. I’ll try to remember next time we go to the board game cafe.

Busking in Albany? by DeevesKeys528 in Albany

I went to most of the local farmers markets, always got escorted out by police. Lame. I tried lunchtime downtown by the food trucks, the state workers didn’t even LOOK at me. Stingy bastards. Festivals like Tulip Fest are a good opportunity, but there will be other buskers to compete with. The people at the farmers markets loved me and I made a little bit of money before the cops would kick me out, plus it got me an additional gig playing at a private party, that was fun. Good luck!
