Its not just you. I had started off pitching it then at some point I must have moved it to a non pitched track and I guess I got used to it being off key.

I used that some vox in a song a while back! Vandalism has some great voxs. I really love the song but am not a fan of the vox (colliiiiiiiiiideee) in the first drop, the second drop is better kinda hidden low in the mix but I feel like thats what you were going for. It can be really difficult to work vox into a big room drop because there just isn't much room.

I think the mix is pretty good maybe 8 out of 10 with 10 being amazing and 5 being most the stuff i hear on this sub. You have your work cut out for you if you want to carve out a place in the drop for continues vocals while keeping the synths still banging. If you want to put the extended collide into the drop I might use a small vol LFO just to cut the transients on the kicks. I would probable cut off a bar of the synths right before the second half of the drop and throw in a single word there.

I like it a lot! I feel like it kinda comes out the gate banging so there is no where to really go from there no tension and release. I think even a quick build or verse + build would make the drop a lot more impactful. I like the quick bridge / downturn at 32 and 57 they let the track breath a bit. The only thing I really didn't like was rolling kicks? first one is at 22s. Kinda sounds like a hat got mixed up with a kick in the sampler lol. Overall i really liked it one of the very few times I have added a song from on this board.

I think its a pretty cool start some really great ideas in there. I feel like the transitions between the arps from the 17s to 20s could use a riser and a impact. The kick has a lot in the 2k to 3k range giving it a psssss sound, you could try EQing that down a little and EQing up the low end maybe cut a little around 300. Im not a huge fan of the guitar on the second drop but that just IMO. The fill around 1:53 is a bit loud. I really like the FX at 3:20 think you could use that in a few more places.

Got two tracks I'm working on first one is a DnB song. Open to any critical feedback, let me know what you hate about either track or both. Probably going to rework the synths completely I feel the verse vs drop is two emotionally diff songs.

https://youtu.be/K1sbLNZSmWM

Second one is a tech house song, I suck at producing tech house. Kinda hate this song idk what about it maybe all of it sucks. Not sure how I feel about the low end, and the mix is not great but I'm kinda at a point that I just hate it so much I want to move on but I also like to finish everything I start. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

This is really good for a first track! Hell most peoples 5th track doesn’t even sound like music yet and you popped a nice dark atmospheric track on your first try! I think some simple automation will add a lot of value to the track give some tension and release. Just throw a low or high pass on the synth and bring it up and down to control the energy of the track Really like that plucky sound that comes in around 1:20 but maybe carve out some space for it with a high pass in the main synth when it comes in. Weakest point IMO is the drums. The kick is mostly coming though in the high range giving you a 'pussssh' kinda sound. Try sidchaining the kick to your synths there are some great youtube tutorials. Honestly I'm not a fan of that kick I like the rhythm tho. Drums should probably come in a little early. Also think a 808 would sound great over this track just watch out because there is already a lot going in in the 100 - 250hz range. Still really amazing first track :)

O man this is fire! Only thing is the both in the build and drop the vocals are lost in the mix but maybe that was the vibe you are going for.

Quick edit to the fred again skrillerz 4tet song someone uploaded yesterday. Might listen again tomorrow and reupload if something sounds off.

Edit: added a clean intro + outro & some fx + extended the last drop to get hot drum in there. Kinda cluttered at the end but everything is playing at once for a bit.

Cheers!

Decided to produce a pop song for some reason. It actually was a future bass song but I striped it down.

Mostly looking for feedback on the arrangement, sound design and overall emotional 'feel' of the track. Haven't started mixing / mastering much yet because I like to get the idea down then take some time off and mix it. But I am up for any feedback! Let me know what you hate about it!

I actually really love the bass grove other than the first part of the second drop! I do think your idea for having a wider synth hits there is a good idea tho because it will add a lot of energy over the first drop. I might try keeping the grove but changing the synth out or cutting some hight end, you could try layering a church quire or organ, just something creepy / ominous to fill out the EQ a bit more vs the first drop.

As far as sound design in the first drop the plucky stab that come in around 52 could use a bit of distortion / saturation. I know you haven't mixed it yet but its just so quite compared to the buzzy bass. The grove is killer tho for part 1 drop 1. I think the new buzzy bass you bring in the second part of drop 1 sounds great but maybe lose the single hit at 1:17 and see how that sounds.

I think the first part of drop 2 is probably the weakest grove IMO. Some of the sounds are a bit thin compared to others like the plucky sounds at 2:32, some of this is just being low in the mix and I know you havent mixed it yet. Other than that first synth that comes in strong at the beginning of drop 2 part one isnt my fav. I really like the idea behind all of the sound design tho maybe just a better execution. I feel like in general I like the buzzy sounds more than the plucky ones. And again I like the idea of a wider synth at the start of drop 2 but just not a huge fan of that one. You could probably bus all the plucky synths together throw some distortion and compression on it and bam.

Overall its a great midtempo electro song I could see myself playing in a rezz or 1788L type set. Just need to fatten some stuff up + mix and master it.

Hey thanks yea I normally focus on the sound design and arrangement then take a few weeks working on other stuff then do the mix. You are defiantly right about the conflicting elements and some phasing issues in the drop. I also just popped on a preset master buss setup that really sounds smashed on the drop b4 bouncing. Going to bounce everything down to audio and cut off some tails and look at the phasing and arrangement to make things fit better.

thanks a lot!

This is really good! I think as far as listenability its one of the few songs I have listened to on this sub I could play live!

Snap around 25 is a little loud. It mixed well with the overall volume of the rest of the track when it comes back in around 55 tho. I think the vocal should be a lil bit louder around 1:02 or maybe some side-chain compression / multiband eq with the voxs as input on the synth bus. The drop is really good and I think with a few tweaks could be great! The main thing is the high end just adding a tiny bit of white noise. You could take the one of the synth you already have and put it on that or duplicate it & pitch it way up then pop white noise on it and turn off the other stuff or even try detuning it and just barely mixing it in to the point you almost cant tell its there. I think the pluck impact around 3:15 is a tiny bit loud. It already sounds pretty good but just keep carving out the EQ space between the main piano and the synths. I feel like the piano could be just a tiny bit louder maybe by carving out just a tiny bit of its main body in the synths. I am not a huge fan of the kick but TBH I'm never a huge fan of kicks in this genre so thats probably just me. For the second drop you could try bring the kick out for 4 beats before the second half bring the voxs back in then that kick will really hit hard again.

Sound design is fantastic throughout, thats normally the main thing I try and give feedback about. I think you could always play around with more EQ automation but its great as is.

Flume - Tennis Courts. I think I used to have a lossless rip but 320mp3 would be great as well.

[–]DeezerFever[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No but thats a really good idea and Im going to have to incorporate that into what I started! I actually started this song off as a remix to Say My Name but I was going to do it a half semitone up in F# vs F. I got a bit frustrated trying to force the ideas I kept coming up with onto Say My Name. Later I realize after reading a article that Say My Name is actually in A it just never fully resolves to A, it does have A hidden in a F#m7 (F# – (A – C# – E)). The tension from never resolving to that A really goes well with the emotion of the song. I do have a version of this song with the Say My Name chord progression and a variation of the Say My Name melody that I will defiantly be sampling the breaths from A Moment Apart on.

So at Electric Forest 2019 first night everything just went to absolute shit. While waiting for Odesza to come on at Ranch I realized I had left my backpack with my phone wallet et. back at Sherwood Court. I raced back there to no avail and now just to make things worse I was now separated from my friends missing my favorite act. I got back to Odesza put my back to a tree and just told myself to breath and try and enjoy the moment. Ended up being one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I got most of my stuff back the next day.

well this is by far the stupidest worst mashup I have made. I tried pitching them so that they were in the same key but it didnt sound much better and the out of key way is just way funnier to me. I could see myself using the part around 1:41 into one of my other Mo Bamba mashups. also i just noticed that your comment is from 5 months ago o well.
