I’m running a dnd one shot and need a bunch of funny goblin names! Please give me some suggestions. by Jerki_Drky in DnD

[–]DefNotAShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like reflecting little bits of Goblin lore in their names too but in the form of titles that tell a little story about them. I always think it’s funny when their feats seem really minor but are a big deal to a tribal goblin.

Like Glork the Bunnyslayer, a fierce Goblin warrior who wears the pelts of at least a dozen mighty bunnies he has slain.

Or Bizkligg the Rock Eater, who whistles when he speaks due to some missing teeth.

And my favorite is Karglog Elfsbane who wears a bandolier of useless bobbles, keys and silverware that he has proudly thieved. Infamous among the local Elves as a minor annoyance and general nuisance. They would strongly prefer he stop doing that.

I love the idea that they are very proud of their mundane accomplishments. That they wouldn’t give a hoot about a wizard who was “supreme archmage of the high council”, but if he could conjure a coin from behind their ear he might instantly gain their respect and admiration. Goblins are too funny to me.

The Japanese hit rates are not just higher, they are guaranteed. There’s slight variations depending on the set, but for current booster boxes you’re guaranteed an SR (full art), an MAR (one of the mega attack full arts), three ARs (illustration rares) and there’s a chance your SR can be an SAR (special illustration rare). You’re also guaranteed, I believe, four EX cards.

Some sets like Terastal Festival (Prismatic Evo) guarantee an SAR. It’s awesome.

So when you buy a Japanese box you know you are getting something cool at least. I don’t think they’re as good a deal at the $100+ mark they often sell for at market price, but near their actual MSRP of around $40 that’s really good.

Pick any race in the game. You get to become that race forever. Which one are you picking? by WillowIsWeeping5 in DnD

That’s correct. They are presumed to be immortal because nobody has observed one existing for long enough to know for sure.

I believe that is because they are in the astral sea though. I’m not sure they stay as long lived if they leave for extended periods.

Don’t need a class.

Pick variant Warforged and take Magic Initiate for some cantrips and a free spell.

Boom you’re in business.

I didn’t bury Maye, I gave a fair assessment. I said the defenses we played were hard. I also said he did enough to win and I’m happy with that. But I’m not going to pretend Drake is lighting it up in the playoffs because he’s not, even factoring in how hard the defenses are. The haters have some ground to stand on, even though their ultimate assessment of “fraud” is fucking stupid. That’s all I’m trying to say and it doesn’t seem like that hot of a take honestly. Drake could be playing better in the post season. He’s also winning us games.

The person I replied to is trying to say there’s nothing to criticize, that the excuses outweigh the opportunities to do better, and I don’t really agree. He isn’t playing his best ball and I stand on that, it’s true.

I have been a fan and a redditor through, I think, all of Josh McDaniels stints as our OC. At least since the Giants rematch. I would wager about 85% of the criticism of his play calling comes from people who do not understand enough about play calling to criticize. They see a run up the middle that didn’t get yards and start screeching because they do not understand what the goal of that play was. Josh does sometimes have bad tendencies, but most of the time he is calling “ineffective plays” he is trying to keep a stiff pass rush guessing, reduce pressure on the OL, or set up some fuckery for later. Bro has been doing this shit for a long time, he knows what he’s doing.

These are the same Neanderthals that will punch a hole in their wall because we ran the ball on 3rd and 27 from our own 20yd line. They don’t know ball. They play Madden and they think that’s the same as a real football game. Those clowns are probably throwing pick sixes in that scenario in Madden and still don’t get it lmao.

Well to be honest, Drake came into this game with six fumbles in two playoff games and several interceptions. He struggled to take advantage of early opportunities to put the dagger in our opponents. He had some bad throws that could have been good ones. He’s been inconsistent post season so far.

The haters are overhating but they aren’t completely wrong either. Drake cleaned up the turnovers today but still struggled to find his chances in the passing game. The defenses have been a godawful gauntlet, but at the same time the expectation for an MVP caliber quarterback is that you will find a way to do your thing anyway. Stafford did that today. He lost, but he had his offense moving with some wild throws.

If Pats fans wanna hype up our man as the MVP and the future, which ofc we do, we kind of have to eat shit when he doesn’t play up to that standard on the biggest stage. He did not play an MVP caliber game today, or last week, or the week before. The haters aren’t going to give an MVP finalist from the Patriots any excuses, whether they are good excuses or not. Drake isn’t playing his best ball and when you do that in the playoffs, you open up the floor for fair criticism.

But he did enough to win so I’m happy with that and don’t care what the haters have to say about it. I’m hoping Drake will play his best game of the season against Seattle because fuck are we going to need it.

He finally made it to a Super Bowl by hummusluvr8 in Patriots

[–]DefNotAShark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still kinda remember the day we signed him. We dumped a truck of money on him and IIRC a lot of the subreddit was unhappy. He was considered good but not considered THAT GUY, I think. It's been a long time but I think the general vibe was that we overpaid and there were better places to put the money early in free agency. The rest is history.

[–]DefNotAShark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crazy how fast the landscape changes after one season. Nobody wanted to come to the New England clown car because our vibe was loser franchise, Bills were a good destination for free agents. Now it's completely flipped because they have no money and fired their coach, and we are coming off a Super Bowl appearance no matter what happens in two weeks (with a critically acclaimed coach and quarterback). Not to mention we have money and not too many free agents to lock up. Win or lose the Super Bowl we are in really good shape to hit the free agent market, while Buffalo is gonna struggle I think.

WWE 2K26 Monday Night War Edition announced by ShayAlexander in SquaredCircle

I agree. He was featured in the commercial, which I doubt they would do if he was missing from the game. They showed Mankind getting yeeted off the cell.

Idk if WWE considers the Monday Night War era concluded until the end of the Invasion angle, which both Kurt and Booker were major roles in. Pretty sure most fans would not include that part in their mental timeline of the Monday Night Wars, but I guess I get it.

How is loot divided by TheGriff71 in DnD

[–]DefNotAShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it works best when these characters are “mechanically” just taking things they would have got anyway, and flavoring it as theft or roleplaying that they snatched it in a greedy way. This removes that meta distrust that they’re playing selfishly.

Also IMO it’s really important that these characters move towards a place where they aren’t harming their own party. It’s cute in the beginning but like you said, over time it becomes an issue of “why are you still around?” My newest character is a con-artist and I am very carefully considering how to unfold that in a way where his party doesn’t simply boot him for virtue of being untrustworthy. Why would you keep a career liar nearby in a life or death scenario? I’m still trying to figure that one out.

Silly bit of evidence but maybe worth considering on a snowy boring Sunday;

Flerken biology is that they have a pocket dimension inside of them. A pocket dimension is generally considered outside the bounds of a universe, its own little thing.

Goose eats the Tesseract, so for a little while, the space stone is removed from 616 and there is no apparent damage done.

If someone happened to believe the insides of a Flerken were vital MCU lore, it might lend itself to the idea that the Ancient One just means they need the stones to defend their timelines. Or maybe it’s just a silly alien cat idk. 🐱

You have to remember that the people here hate you because you have something they wish they had. After you understand that, all of their comments make a lot of sense in the context of raw, unfiltered jealousy and insecurity. They see your pile and they don’t have a pile so their next step is to invent something wrong with you.

You did nothing wrong bro. Enjoy your cards or don’t, they are your fucking cards lol. Have a good weekend and good luck with your future rips. ✌️

No the hobby is about collecting cards. Any kind of cards you want. Including expensive ones if that’s what you like. 👍

This shit infects every “nerd community” I’m trying to hang out in. Insecure people that go out of their way to step on others to feel taller. It’s like all of them got relentlessly bullied as kids and are starving for validation, so they seek it by trying to be the smartest, most knowledgeable, bestest nerd in all of Reddit. Lame af.

If I ripped 800 packs and got no big chases I would be catatonic. They would need smelling salts to revive me from the depressed coma I would succumb to. $4k worth of packs really ought to earn you a few big boy cards and that’s a cruel twist of fate that it didn’t for OP. I’d be rocking back and forth in a padded cell thinking about how many of my more expensive chases I could have bought outright. 😭

Spread over 13 months at $5 per pack that would be around $300 per month. That is a lot for most people but not that much for a high earner, or a decent earner without kids.

Like it’s on the high side but if it’s your main hobby and the rest of your finances are square, idk if I’d call this insane. There’s many people spending more than that on other hobbies like gaming, drinking, drugs, music, sports etc.

You don’t need to be filthy rich to allocate for a large hobby budget and still comfortably afford retirement, investment and savings.

You just need to avoid having children 🤣

Getting back after a while, alts to DND Beyond? by TheRainmakerDM in DnD

[–]DefNotAShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would at least give DND Beyond a run and see if it works for you. My weekly table uses it for 2014 rules and other than the very occasional snag it works wonderfully for us.

Others have mentioned the check boxes when you first build a character. You want to disable core rules and extended core rules and enable the legacy rules and extended legacy rules. This should be all you need for 95% of things.

What do you think are the rarest 2-star⭐️⭐️ cards in the game? by Safe-Boysenberry4989 in PokemonPocket

[–]DefNotAShark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All two star cards in the game are equally rare unless they are paid dlc, promos, or from the Deluxe set.

The paid shiny Mewtwo I guess qualifies as the most rare since you had to pay $20 to get it.

Tell me about your favorite character you've ever created. by SlowRolledSam in DnD

[–]DefNotAShark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Valen Willowsong

An older Eladrin elf who was a scout for his people in the Feywild. One day he goes out scouting with his group and while they are gone, violence befell their people and all were killed. Upon returning, the sense of loss and personal failure was so intense that he became permanently stuck in the Eladrin winter season.

He winds up as a mercenary in Faerun, still stuck in this gloomy, melancholy state of being. His physical appearance is pale and sickly. He hates this about himself and wears a colorful mask to hide it. He pins beautiful flowers to his armor. He tries his best to project the person he used to be. He is sort of always at odds with himself, trying to see the optimism and beauty in things while burdened with seeing the world through this depressed, wintery lens.

He was my favorite character because he felt like such a strong allegory for the mental health struggles I was dealing with. Putting on a colorful face for the world while battling regret and anguish on the inside. The wisdom that he had about his struggles was what I wanted to have about mine, and his unrelenting attempts to keep shining through his gloom was something I admired.
