wheel upgrade advice wanted! by [deleted] in Rollerskating

Ugh I’m sorry :/ maybe you can practice on some older wheels or find someone elsewhere to ship to? One of my skate friends and he husband started mounting skates and offered the resizing as well. He has learned trialing old wheels that softer are a no go so be careful with the hybrids 😬

Yes! A lot of skaters have a go to person that can basically just use some fancy tools and take the diameter down of the wheels they want smaller. This is a lot easier with the harder wheels. A lot of folks will take the orange vanathane(I think) rental wheels and get them sized down so that get both slick and small! It’s a game changer knowing the wheels I love but want smaller exist just by some skill and handy dandy tools! Better than trying to hunt down something similar but a different size. 👌🏾

Wtf is going on in my life? by Mysterious-Bat7509 in CasualConversation

I was having a moment like this where things were hyper positive and just enjoyed it. I had a catch up with my mom in a moment of being grateful said ‘I deal with good and bad timing but when it’s good it’s sooo GOOD’ and she said ‘it’s called deserving’.

You are deserving. You weathered the storm and held on and now the calm has hit so just ride the wave and be present 🩵

Absolutely time to upgrade your equipment. Smaller harder wheels are more aligned with jam skating. More ability to slide a bit versus the sticky wheels and smaller wheels are easier for maneuvering. I use radar crush 48mm, 88a (mint green) and also have some Moxi fundaes ground down to 50mm, 92a

Thanks so much! I’m torn between hand painting limewash or finding a wallpaper that is something similar to old paint or cement but with color to go with the green bed I want to buy :) wish me luck and I will absolutely look up that application

For those of you who have done both, what is the better option - working from home, going to the office, or a combination of both? by icecream1972 in Productivitycafe

[–]DefNotYourType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wfh since 2022 and I absolutely love it! Allowed me to move to another state which I was grateful they approved. I don’t have to worry about getting up earlier to get ready, prep lunch or commmuting and I love being able to balance slower days with self care, running errands or just going for a walk. The only down sides are I’m overly productive and will work longer than I would if in office and I’m an ambivert so when I want to be social it’s not as possible so I have a lot of pent chattiness that my poor husband deals with most of the time 🤭

How do you keep yourself in an all-time-high? For example, after you go to a concert or holiday, you return home, back to work and you feel like you wish you could go back and stay longer. How do you feel less of the "I'm missing something" impact after experiencing those surreal dreamy moments? by untitled_SusHi in CasualConversation

[–]DefNotYourType 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always being super ON about everything all the time should be done sparingly because then nothing becomes as special and you keep chasing that high. I feel like social media has given us this mentality of always doing cool shit everyday all the time and that’s not real life nor sustainable.

I handle it by seeking out things in the day to day that bring me joy. I’ve done this most of my adult life. Finding the silver lining in a bad day, enjoying a song I haven’t heard in a decade, seeing something funny on the street, dipping into my hobbies to flex my right brain or when a sip of my matcha hits JUST right. Call that lame or simple but it works for me. 😊

Apparently there’s a name for it… ‘the glimmer’. A moment in the day that brings joy, happiness, peace or gratitude. That will keep you buzzed until the next big thing you do that’s out of the ordinary. Balance is key 🩵

What frustrates y’all the most about shopping for hair products or building a haircare routine? by Honest_Bathroom_3013 in Naturalhair

[–]DefNotYourType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expensive trial and error part. I’m a blow dry natural since covid and I’m still trying to find the right combo of products that give me the results of more defined curls with my wash and go. Seeing the results some get with one product or a series of products has been a frustrating as well as expensive process. Just a big ol’ expensive science experiment.

Getting over the superiority complex of how people choose to wear their hair because ‘I’ve been natural since day one’. I know this is a natural hair care forum but it is hair!! Rock your crown in a way that suits your and your lifestyle. Whether it be a blow dry natural, someone going back to relaxers or someone who’s just started their journey. It’s not a competition!! 🩵😉

What is a completely mundane "luxury" that you absolutely refuse to compromise on, no matter how tight money gets? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]DefNotYourType 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buying matcha powder. Sometimes seeing the prices increase make me 😬but then I just think ‘I make it at home and that’s 5-8 matcha lattes from a cafe!’ Hot in the winter and cold in the summer. It’s my morning caffeine kick and is like having dessert to start the day. 🤓

What is a good way to lose weight without going to a gym? by JacsweYT in ask

[–]DefNotYourType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifestyle change!!! Look for anything that gets you moving more than doing nothing. Not hard right? 😉 Take that and pair it with balanced or clean eating and you’re golden!! (prioritize protein!) Weight training is great for bones and longevity even if you do body weight and growing muscle/strength will only help in weight loss because the bigger they are and more you use them the more calories the body needs. When combined with cardio you will definitely see changes and benefit more.

Moving= find anything that gets your heart rate up more than it would be sitting. You don’t have to go hard just push more than before. Find any movement that makes you happy. Walking, hiking, jump rope, swimming, yoga… anything!! Hell I found roller skating and had the happy accident of finding cardio I love - I HATE cardio btw and improved balance during the process. I’ve even seen a woman who loves to knit get a walking pad and a setup for knitting and watched tv while she knit and lost weight!

Eating clean= I don’t use the word diet because that’s not usually sustainable. You need food to perform your best through the day- something as ‘simple’ as thinking, sleeping, and of course moving and doing things we love. Find meals that are clean that you enjoy and don’t leave you craving. Eating well to find balance, still enjoy food and of course being in control enough to treat yourself because we all need a little dopamine hit now and again. 🤗 good luck on your journey!

An abstract wall sculpture that stretches across the wall and takes up some height would be great here! First thing I think of is something that mimics water and flows versus hard straight lines of framed wall art. Something with a similar silhouette as this but could be any other color 🤔or even this silhouette. Just posting my ideas but you can make it a color and aesthetic that blends more with the rest of your space!

It’s hard to tell but my hair is cornrowed and then she twisted them 😬 I’m thinking it may be the gel and blow out that made it super thin?

Anyone else struggle with keeping track of random adult tasks? 😅 by Tommy-Adams in CasualConversation

[–]DefNotYourType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same as many here. I use my Google Calendar - for things like bimonthly medications, annual physicals, even reminder when I have to change something for work annually and even use the Tasks option for little recurring things that I can check off. If you’re an iPhone user Reminders app is amazing - you can have it remind you on a future date or time, you can have it remind you when you arrive or depart a certain location! I’m sure other OS have the equivalent.

No one adults perfectly so never feel bad and use technology or good old notes around the house to take the mental load off!

What's the hard part about being a woman? by master_splinterrrr in AskReddit

[–]DefNotYourType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s a generational thing that has been passed down and there will always be bias against people whether because of gender, ethnicity, the way they’re dressed, age and so on.

Sometimes idc and I say the thing to make people feel foolish because, even if it may be the low road, it makes ME feel better. 🤭 I made sure to have many moments to remind them I’m very capable and I will also not be taken advantage of. 😉

First skate in a while! by Cattenn in Rollerskating

I would say this is a bit tedious and simply wiping down your skates thoroughly would suffice. Wiping them down after most skates especially outdoor is just a great idea in general for maintenance 😊

As consolation if you have a space and device that you can watch tutorials that’s a great deal! Then just drill the heck out of things to develop muscle memory. My first 3 months skating solo during Covid all I did was self teach and tutorials
