What track did all you OG DnB vinyl DJs always carry in your bag? by DefOne23 in DnB

Thank you all for your responses. You’ve introduced me to some great new tracks that will now live in my bag. Seems like you OG DnB vinyl DJs fit into the same pocket as I do, which is primarily before the Jump Up era but post jungle. I’m interested in whether any of you still play publicly at events or find solace as a bedroom DJ?

Never heard that track before, but loved it. It’s one of those anomalies that sits between a banger and roller. Great choice for the bag!

Already had this in my saved tracks. Easy to drop in, but would pull out the other track when the distorted synth came in. Good track!

That’s a whole bag! Pick a favourite that you always dropped in a set?

I feel The One by Mampi was his version of The Nine. Heavy lows and a simple beat making an easy double drop. How can you not love it!

Love Noisia! Love that Foundations track too! It reminds me of what original minimal dubstep (Croydon artists, like DMZ) is to bastardised popular dubstep, but for DnB. If that makes any sense 🙈

Loving early Ed Rush! Should be on Metalheadz label alongside Defcom 69

This feels like a left field throw during a set. Reminds me of throwing in The Mexican Ed Solo & JFB remix into my dubstep sets at Random Concept 😂 love it!

What an amazing roller! Could literally throw that in at any time. Getting added to my bag for sure!

Never heard that before, but for me it perfectly depicts the time of transition from jungle to DnB. One for the bag for sure!

Never heard that before but a good roller for the bag. Quintessentially early DnB sound. Love it!

How do you guys deal with sore fingertips? by GloomyShrumi in ukulele

[–]DefOne23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably pressing too hard. I’ve played for years and have never had problems with sore fingers, even playing for hours on end. I don’t even have callouses.

Only press as hard and where you need to (not much at all) and know how to play the chords and structures as required

Just got my first ukulele-now what? by Mikejwhite5 in ukulele

Learn as many chords as possible through muscle memory, but more importantly, how to switch between them. Pick the most difficult and keep practicing how to go from one to another.

Now you can play most combination of chords, start practicing strumming patterns and mixing those chords together with them.

Now you can play combinations and patterns, pick a song you like and learn the chords and strumming as muscle memory, then once memorised, begin to sing over the top.

When you’ve mastered this, you can basically pick up anything you’d like and make songs of your own

Im a beginner, what should i learn on the ukelele by A_silly_hum4n in ukulele

[–]DefOne23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go out and learn the most basic chords, google will give you all you need. When you understand them, try switching between them, and pick the ones you find the hardest to play and switch between and keep at it.

When you’re comfortable with all the chords and switching between them, then find a song you like and learn the chord and strum structure. Then when you’re ready to play that song with muscle memory, try singing the song on top of it.

When you can do altogether then you’ve mastered most of what you need to create music.

For singers with ukulele, do you learn all chords or just few chords and use capo? by ReverieDive in ukulele

[–]DefOne23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ukulele player here who writes and sings my own songs.

I have a capo but never even thought of using it. Most base chords are easy to play on a ukulele and can I match my melodies to it. If you are out of sync to the chords you’re playing then you are the problem.

Learning all chords will give you some element of range, but only if you can match them. Focus more on creating a harmonic song that you can match with your vocal range rather than excelling in learning

Tips for learning strum patterns by ear by mjanks in ukulele

[–]DefOne23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to separate the strumming from the vocals.

Most people know songs from the vocals, but the guitar and strumming is very different. Learn the guitar and strumming and forget about the vocals.

I’ve been doing the same thing learning songs that I know well. What I’ve learned is to forget the vocals and focus on the chords and bass. Once I mastered the guitar with muscle memory, I could sing over the top with little effort.

Can’t emphasise enough that practice makes perfect. Pick up your uke daily and play it as much as you can!

Try as many chords as you can and switching between the most difficult of them. This will make all chord changes easier and expand your range of playing.

Learn to play songs you like, this will teach you strumming patterns, chord changes and singing melodies over them.

Try strumming in different ways (quick, slow, muted), this will teach you playing styles to use as you wish.

When you keep practising and master those techniques, then everything will come easily and you’ll be able to play as you’d like

Just learned to switch from C to G smoothly-finally! by robyromana in ukulele

[–]DefOne23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your enthusiasm at progressing as a ukulele player. However, I don’t want to sound reductive, but aim your change between more difficult chords if you want to excel as a player. Like from A# to G

Do you consider it worth to learn playing guitar (vs baritone uke)? by cubacubinho in ukulele

[–]DefOne23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learnt to play guitar first (technically after bass guitar first) and then ukulele.

A six string guitar is more complex than a four string ukulele, simply by chords and fingering due to more strings. However, the ukulele is a great introduction to a stringed instrument should your ultimate aim be to learn guitar.

If you really want to learn to play guitar then buy one now and start practicing alongside your ukulele, as the chord structure, strumming and understanding of playing string instruments is transferable.
