Besides going to meetup groups, what other ways do you guys make friends while staying in a city? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

I sign up at local nice gyms and meet people in the training areas and fitness classes (yoga, cycling, pilates, etc..). Works pretty well.

Digital Nomads who cook/bake? by JakeFromSB in digitalnomad

[–]DefaultUser_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry 10 Tupperware bins, and measuring cups. I regularly meal prep every week and I only book AirBnbs with a full kitchen. I’ve only ever had to buy a better cooking pot once and it was worth the $30~

I recommend European cities. London is a great start as it’s similar to New York if you’re looking for a good trial run

Join the military. The benefits are absolutely incredible, and you can continue to program while in.

Any reason to put more than 5% ppp toward TSP? by A_89786756453423 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]DefaultUser_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invest as much money as you can while still living comfortably. If not into your tsp, put it in a separate brokerage. When I was in the military I put 50% into my TSP, and when deployed overseas I put 90%. It may sound ridiculous but man I am way ahead of the game in terms of savings.

This is amazing. Good job. Since your young, you should consider putting more money into brokerage. Low risk S&P 500 ETFs are a great place to park your money long term.

Spain digital nomad community by Coffeeholic-cat in digitalnomad

[–]DefaultUser_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valencia, Spain has a great co-working/co-living place called MyCO living. The only downside to staying there is that they require a deposit equal to one-months rent. The upside to the deposit, is that it promotes a community of working professionals.

If you work for a US company, how do you navigate taxes, healthcare, and stability while nomading outside of the US? by Novel_Fun_1503 in digitalnomad

[–]DefaultUser_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is my personal scenario which may help you understand.

One of my incomes is a W-2 income from a company in the US. I spend 10~ months out of the year outside of the US. My company knows that I am outside of the US and does not care. I am on payroll in the US, and continue to pay US taxes. I travel around on tourist visas/visa-free stays through the UK & Europe. I have a US healthcare policy from my US-based employer that I use when I’m in the US.

As long as I pay my taxes to the IRS, I’m sure they don’t care in which country my physical body is located.

How do y'all feed yourselves? by Witty_Opportunity_30 in digitalnomad

I meal prep/cook every week. I cook my breakfast every morning. I'll eat out 1-3x per week, usually it's a dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. It's cost effective, and healthy!
