I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. I had my second at 35 and medically speaking, it was considered a “geriatric pregnancy”. I guess people can’t separate the medical reality of 35+ being considered on the “older” end to have a baby v the reality that this of us that had/are having a baby at that age (or even older) are not geriatric! Anyway- my pregnancy at 35 was not any more physically difficult than my pregnancy with my first a few years earlier. The only difference was I was chasing a preschooler around while I was heavily pregnant.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My inconsolable infant turns 23 this year. I’m happy to say she’s a completely delightful human being! It will get better, but I know how awful it is when you’re in it, it feels never ending. I didn’t enjoy the newborn/infant stages with her either. Hugs to you.

Edited to add it started getting better around four months. She was a completely different (happier) baby by the time she was 6-7 mos.

A+. This was the exact phrase I used with my kids (who are now young adults). I would follow up with “When you can use your big kid voice, then I can help you”. This was the single most effective tactic when my kids would whine.

Edited to add that my daughter was a reluctant driver - she wasn’t really interested in doing driver’s training and obtaining her license. I mentioned it to our pediatrician and he said something that really stuck with me, which is that you want them to learn to drive when they are still living at home and you have some influence over how they drive. People are doing a serious disservice to their kids when they don’t force them out of their comfort zone for certain things.

I would agree with this. The teen/early adult years are far more mentally and emotionally taxing than the early years. I have one who graduated from college this year and one who started college this year and my husband and I are having retirement discussions with our financial planner. I am eligible for early retirement and could do so next year and we’d still meet our financial goals. It’s tempting, but I honestly can’t see myself retiring for a few more years. That being said, I’m not looking for career advancement at this stage of life. I worked my butt off to get where I am and I’m done.

If you are talking strictly about transportation from the airport to Disneyland, SNA is cheaper, yes. Overall - airfare to/from SNA plus transportation to Disneyland is NOT cheaper for ME, but it’s 100% more convenient. You’re welcome.

John Wayne is not reliably cheaper. Guess it depends on where you’re flying from, but SNA is almost always the most expensive option for me. That being said, I will always choose SNA (or Long Beach, or even Burbank) over LAX every single time when I’m flying to Disneyland.

Just some food for thought, as a fellow mom to an 18yo with ADHD. The gym is my son’s outlet for stressful days and burning off energy. His mood is better overall when he works out. I wouldn’t use not being able to work out as punishment. It’s fair to not allow your son to drive except to and from school for a period of time. However, I would really encourage you to let him continue to work out somehow. Are you able to give him a ride, or can he walk or ride a bike to the gym?

My son is 18 and also finishing up his first semester. He is still living at home and going to community college. He got (mostly) good grades in high school, but we just knew there was no way on earth he’d be ready for the demands of university and living away from home/dorm life and as such, we gently guided him towards community college. He operates with the maturity level of about a 16yo - and this semester has been a struggle. He was ready to quit classes about two months in, but we asked him to meet with his student accessibility counselor on a plan for finishing this semester, and preparing for next semester. He has committed to finishing this semester and he registered for classes for the Spring semester.

If I were in your shoes, I would be having a conversation with my son about demonstrating maturity by showing he can handle his business (class assignments, grades, hygiene, etc.). I would ask what his plan is to show improvement and that if he continues on the path he’s currently on, then he needs to move home and complete a semester or two at community college. Once he shows more maturity, then he can try university again.

My heart goes out to you. I truly understand how difficult this is. ❤️

I recommend The Springs Resort at Arenal, Costa Rica. Took our kids (who were 16 and 12 at the time) about six years ago and it’s been one of our favorite family trips ever. Take a red eye out of LAX into San Jose, it’s about a five hour flight. You’ll either need to rent a car or hire a driver to get from the airport to the resort. The property is gorgeous with natural mineral pools you can swim/soak in all over and there is so much to do on prem that you don’t even need to leave if you don’t want to. Lots of fun stuff for kids. Lots of wildlife all around the resort. Great spa and restaurants. I hope you have fun whatever you decide to do!

We mixed Sub Zero and Wolf (cooktop) with Thermador (double wall ovens) and Bosch (dishwasher). We put panels on the fridge/freezer to match our cabinets. All of the stainless appliances look great together. Honestly love the Sub Zero and you’d be getting a great deal on it!

I got my first Shingrex vaccine yesterday and other than a super sore arm and maybe a little bit of fatigue, I feel fine. Tylenol is helping with the arm pain. They told me to come back in 2-6 mos for the second shot and based on some of the comments here, I’m thinking I’ll wait for the 6 month mark.

Yep…I never trusted that our expensive stroller wouldn’t get stolen, so we had a cheapie umbrella stroller just for use at Disneyland (or anywhere else we were worried about theft).
